On a lighter m-f'n note!

how about this bad boy

Need a few hay bales (or a cab-over camper) in the back of the long bed, and some slot aluminum mags wrapped in G60-15 (or there-abouts) tires. Might even use some FlexSeal to mimic the factory "vinyl rool" option, too?

Neat, but basic, trucks . . . but most pickups where that way, back then. Just that the Dodges could have 413s or 440s in them (depending upon the model year).

Enjoy!

Yes, that particular model year does pre-date the 440, but that particular platform/series lasted until 1971, which is 440 territory.

That body series, as I recall, started in the earlier '60s, but lived until it was replaced by the "modern" 1972, independent front end, pickup platform. In the earlier years, the 318 was usually the only 1/2 or 3/4-ton V-8 option, but by about '66 or so, 383s happened, as did some drag race-oriented 413 or 440s. Back in the days of "The Dude" trim package. 440s started in '66, in the cars.

As someone who has owned 16 of the '61-'71 Dodge trucks, I'll clarify a few things:

A 440 was never available in these. You could get a 426W in the High Performance Package (HPP) in '63-'66 The engine availability:
198 ('70-'71)
225 (all years D/W100-700)
318A ('61-'66 ('61-'67 in Canada))
318LA ('67-up)
361 & 413 Industrial ('64-'78 D/W400-700)
383 ('68-'71)
There are a handful of 413 HPP '63s.

The "Dude" was simply an appearance package with the big "C" stripe, and (usually) a Hi-Impact color. A 225, 318, or 383 could be had, in 4x2 or 4x4. Long wide bed only.

The Custom Sport Special (CSS) waa an appearnce option with Dart buckets, Polara console, four hood and roof stripes, and Custom chrome trim. These were 1963-1967, and available in long or short bed Sweptline or Utiline beds, and in 4x4 or 4x2 platforms. Any engine, too. The HPP & CSS options could be ordered together from '63-'66. After that, a similar Adventurer high-level trim from 1968 on was available. www.cssregistry.com

440 wasn't available until 1973, and wasn't in dealer brochures until 1974, unless it was like the 1966 Charger, and added later.

How is that possible when they were available in 66 and on?????

In cars, yes. Never in the Sweptline series. The 426W filled the BB need up through '66, and the 383 from '68-'71. No 440 in any regular or medium duty trucks, until MY1974..
