original carb is missing - what should it have been?

The original carb on my '66 Newport 383-2 is missing and was replaced with a Carter 6134s from a later model Dodge truck. A rebuild kit for this carb seems to be unobtainable.

Would my car's build sheet tell me what carb it should of have, or any other document/casting number etc? I know it might have been either a Stromberg or Carter or maybe a Bendix . . . not sure.

Considering upgrading to a 4 barrel in the future, but for now, I'd love to either rebuild the truck carb or replace it with what I should of had, as it the accel. pump seems to be worn out.

The 1966 Chrysler Factory Service Manual will detail the carb, carb number, and all normal specs for it. Our '66 Newport Town Sedan 383 2bbl w/AirTemp had a Stromberg WWC3-262 on it. You can do a free download of the FSM at www.mymopar.com .

The Carter BBD 2bbl was an equivalent carb and was used after the Strombergs stopped being built. The BBDs for the 383s were the "1.5" with a larger float bowl (more squared-off in shape) than the similar BBD that was on the 318s.

Thank you. I identified the carb I currently have - it's a Carter BBD for a Dodge truck . . . I was trying to find a rebuild kit for it, but couldn't. The FSM says I should have the Stromberg WWC 3-262, so I guess I'm on a quest for one of those . . . or go the Edelbrock Thunder 650 with an alum. intake . . . not sure what route to take yet.

I think so - does it say WWC on the side? Perhaps 3-262 as well?

CBODY67 would a generic WWC work? One without the model number? I’m thinking it wouldn’t have the correct Mopar linkages…

Bill, It appears this is the right carb for your car although I didn't see the 3-262 on it. I found what looks like 3L5 on the base. It ran great on the 66 Fury I bought from a guy years ago. The K frame was rusted bad so I parted it out. It has been sitting in my loft for about 20 years so will need a kit but it is not stuck and is complete with the choke. Here are some more pics I took today. $65.00 shipped to you.
