Old Man with a Hat
In the coming next two months I will drive the Polara out to one of these small towns in the Delta about 50 miles from me. Town is called Locke and dates back to the early 1900s as a Chinese community. Place is mostly very old wood buildings but still a functional town.

Locke, CA looks tiny though... There's a few towns/villages in New York state that are under 100 people, but not many.
I just noticed that we broke 4000 posts in this thread today!
One thing that always fascinated me were the giant "Muffler Men" that stood in front of gas stations and repair shops, along with a lot of other stores and amusement parks. Probably a hold over from when I was a kid and I walked under a giant Paul Bunyan on the way into Enchanted Forest amusement park. I've wanted one for the front yard, but that probably won't ever happen. Sigh....
Many have survived, some restored and repurposed, and even some that went into collections.

Here is a picture of Ray Teets Garage in Oakland Maryland in 1938 with the Plymouth banner in the front window of the gas station section. He sold Chrysler Plymouth Imperial and GMC for the duration. He also sold WV in the 50's, Packard in the 40s and tractors (Massey I think) in the 20's and 30's. Also a picture of his Goodyear picture of the Akron Goodyear blimp he won for selling tires in a contest in summer 1931, nearly 100 years ago.
