I've had a recent off line discussion with Joey about the possibility of starting a dedicated "politics" thread/forum similar to those found with the A an B Body forums. I won't speak for Joey but my understanding is he is willing to consider it but one of his main concerns is members jumping outside the thread with political commentary. Therefore he needs some convincing that it would work here. My intent is to allow those members that see value in a carefully confined politics thread/forum to state their case and do some "convincing". For my part I will gladly commit to staying within a clearly defined "political" thread. For those interested please share your thoughts on my proposal below. Thanks to Joey for his consideration.

    My suggestion:
    1. Open a political thread and resume the former mods hands off policy subject to the following. Anything goes unless it is illegal. The political forum should be all encompassing. In other words Climate, Wuhan, religion HOA etc all fall under the political hat. Members must sign up separately for the political forum agreeing to the anything goes format and waive any right of appeal if they are offended by anything written.

    2. At the same time announce strict rules with no appeal for all members. There are plenty of good code of conduct templates out there but I'd suggest the main rule is no politics or personal attacks of any sort for all other threads outside the political thread. Failure to adhere to the rules first time will get you suspended at the sole discretion of the mods as fair warning. If it happens again the member is gone for good.

I thought Joey was dead set against this here as it seems he has his hands full enough dealing with BBO's political forum? I didn't know ABO had a political as I only lurk in the /6 section. Personally I don't care as I'm getting burned out on Forums, Groups, etc. as well as the I-net for the lack of civility and stupidity of people in all of it.

I would like to participate in an open forum.

Was someone crying about being offended in our previous threads? Is that what got it shut down?

I may be in the minority here but I feel that I see and hear enough politics everywhere which I typically try to ignore now due to overload, hell I don’t even want to watch the news.
The main reason I am part of this forum is to give me an opportunity to read things of interest and try and help people who honestly need it without all the drama in the world. I love the hobby and simply want to focus on that without a whole lot of BS.
So my vote would be not interested and hope it doesn’t happen.

Actually, it might be a benefit. If you need to sign up separately for access to that particular forum, and there is an enforced policy in the rest, then the sniping will be gone from the "normal" threads. Those threads can then be what used to be here, without all the drama.

I get what you are saying and if it is a separate part I would be ok with that. There is always a solution we just need to find it.

While I will choose not to participate in that thread, I think it's good to be able discuss this with other people with the same interests (cars).

To those that don't want to participate, the "ignore thread" feature is there.

I would like to see it kept civil and not have personal attacks though. Call that being an adult, if you will. I definitely agree that if personal attacks spill over into the rest of the forum, that can cause some real problems.

If you find religion offensive you don't go to church. If you find a particular section of the internet offensive ( porn ) you don't click it open. Same goes for a political thread. Don't open it!
Many guys stayed out of the America thread for similar reasons as yours.

I'm in Fred, I found that thread insightful. A lot of knowledge came from many members from that America thread.

I know we all have some sort of political orientations and such, but I'm much more concerned about car stuff, learning about what I might not know about and downloading some of the stuff I have experienced in respective areas . . . rather than reading "Recent Posts" in a political forum. FWIW

Personally, I'm a little tired of "My side's better than your side", "Your side will ruin everythng", and similar things. As things have evolved, unless you do your own research and make your own decisions about things, rather than just co-opt what somebody else might claim, politics has become far too complicated for many to fully understand in a 30 or 60 second commercial.

Our common ground is Chrysler Products and keeping them on the road. Their quirks and enjoying/understanding them. Plus the restoration/preservation of the vehicles. Might we just keep it at that?

    Joey's decision, which I respect.

    Respectfully,
    CBODY67

I truly enjoy just the car side of the site.

However, put the politics back up and make it separate. Fixed.

I enjoy the difference's in peoples opinions across the abo, bbo, and the cbo crowds. The crowd here seems to be the most mature of the three political sections on the three boards.

I personally would support a politics only forum. It is unfortunate that a few cry babies got Joey to pull the America thread, there was a good exchange of ideas. Unfortunately, some did include personal attacks and some garbage so there does need to be clear, well defined rules. For those offended by politics, well there is always the option to not click on the political thread. I think a free exchange if ideas has value as long as the exchange is kept civil. I miss seeing some of the best political cartoons I have ever seen as well.

When you in particular said "Fuck Joey" in one of the last posts before the thread was taken down, what do you think and one other member did as well?

We tried politics on this site for some time now and saw all the hate sprewed forth everywhere - what is any good reason for having it on a car site? Most of us I assume are sick and tired of politics everywhere.

Some of you guys that want the politics back only post virtually all the time on that subject and nothing on cars - you can't find someplace else to go?

    Get a life...................................

This site has been so much more enjoyable without so many threads being invaded by that subject by those who just can't obey directives, covid or not. Letting politics back on this site would only deteriorate over time just as it did in the past.

It needs to be gone forever - no place on a car site. We don't even discuss A, B or E bodies here. But politics????????????????????????

I see a benefit in such a subject. Some of the posts are to be ignored and some have some insightful information.

That's a lot easier said than done! I'm on BBO's political board and I can tell you that it's thicker then snot in that section with insults, degradation of members, the POTUS, OH man you have no earthly idea! This is the blurb for that section, " Have a thick skin and be respectful of others while discussing politics here. You must be a Politics Forum Member to View. Sign up for access by CLICKING HERE and selecting JOIN at the bottom of the page for Political Forum Access." Joey, if you're reading this, why isn't his enforced over there?
There's enough crap and politics on the net, I don't think it's needs to be here.

The FBBO forum has a political thread, the majority of which I may add were Trump supporters and I was banned from that PF in part due to the members they're lodging complaints against me
So spare me the cry baby BS . As ive stated many times the only thing that sets me off is mentioning family... I was warned God knows how many times not to reply to offensive posting in the general forum, just report it and let the moderators sort it out....Well that didn't always work and as a result of forum members who just cant follow rules and my replying, I was banned for 9 months.
What people dont get is you have no rights here, your a guest and you either abide by the rules the moderator sets forth or you leave
If the guy tells you no politics than thats what he means
It makes me wonder how would some would fare in the military when they cant have the self control to just do what is asked and follow simple rules
Having said that if the site owner agrees a political forum may be just the ticket

I would say Joey has a hands off attitude with dealing with the FBBO political forum .
Id also venture to say he tolerates it because its so popular...
Nobody gets their arm twisted to join that forum, but it does get out of control and certain things probably aren't going to be tolerated...My opinion based on speculation

Just to give you guys a few thoughts to consider....

and who is going to enforce those rules? How about when we ban someone for posting politics and I get the 20 pms telling me about how "indispensable" his technical knowledge is and I should let him back in. Or the emails where the offender 'promises' to be good from now on . Hell, people know that I'm deleting political posts and people are still posting them. Can't follow that rules for even a day, but I'm suppose to expect they'll follow the rules of keeping politics in just one forum?

Exactly one of my concerns. Member A & B are bitterly opposed to each other in the politics forum and then start sniping at each other in the car threads, which is what the site is actually here for.

And then we get into civility... Here is a post in the corona virus thread from earlier today...

So the site isn't the same and is going to completely fail because I have been deleting political posts? See what I mean about things spilling over?

I've been on this forum since almost the beginning and the forum was pretty much anything goes and we policed ourselves. There was a few idiots that was just on the forum to cause chaos (SuperB was one of them that eventually left the forum). Who knows he might be back here now under a different handle.

I believe we should have a politics thread that you have to sign up for if you want to participate and is not visible to those that don't want to participate. There isn't any reason to complain to Joey since they won't be able to view that thread.

Also I think its dead wrong to insult Joey or tell him to get fucked on any thread. If it wasn't for Joey we wouldn't have this forum. As everyone knows.....the other C-Body forums are really terrible!

I was trying to think of a way to put things in perspective and thought of this. Most of you have probably seen the commercial where the little boy says “it’s a hot dog”. Well this forum is “a car forum” and should remain that way.

As moderator, you still have ultimate control to delete posts by those who do not observe the rules, and to remove members who can not take the hint after being warned. Some items probably can bleed over, for example a discussion on C-Body fuel costs might drift into the area of what happens if fracking were to be banned, this would probably at least double fuel costs. Banning fracking is a political objective but by the same token it is relevant as part of a discussion on fuel costs. Can not always separate the political component from practical considerations.

    Dave
