questions about rear springs on '70 Fury convertible

Hi Bill
thanks for that info. Do your springs have just 5 leaves as well? If you have your broadcast sheet, I'd be interested in what numbers it shows under springs.

Look at the various pictures on my web site, under Greasy Stuff First. There are 5 full plus a littled shorty. I don't knows if that means 5 or 6 leaves. Sorry no build sheet. When we did the restoration we checked the springs and they were found to be in good condition without any sag, so we cleaned them and reused the factory originals. I've got about 1,500 km on the car now, mixed highway and city. The suspension is great.

OK, now that I am fixing my 1970 Polara 'vert, I have suspension questions as well:

1. The specialist who is fixing the car for me asked if I wanted to change the shocks, and I said yes -- all four.

--> What are the brand/models that you guys recommend? Is the general consensus still to go with KYB?

Best shocks for Formal's?

The KYB website suggests (i) Gas-A-Just for fronts and (ii) either Gas-A-Just ("improvement over OEM") or Excel-G ("OEM replacement") for rears. Thoughts?

2. He says the springs seem fine. My inclination is therefore to wait till I drive the car and decide if I like the ride or not. Here is what my car looks like:

Looking over these other pictures do I detect the leaf springs being flat at the very least or with a little bit of a negative curve to them. View attachment 167312

--> Thoughts? I am thinking safety is OK since he suggests no change, but what about cost now vs. cost later? My guess is that I am looking at $500 or more for parts, plus labor. Would I save much on labor time if I did the springs at the same time as the shocks?

Thanks in advance!

Replace the springs now. There will be no savings but look at them..They are sagging, sure, you can wait but your *** will be dragging .

I went with Bilstein shocks on Missouri, I wanted her to handle better than factory.
I put NOS on Adleen, Go with the KYBs for your car.

I was somewhat surprised that my restorer was not recommending to replace them. He knows what he's doing, and he does not mind my questions (to the contrary, he encourages me to ask), so I will talk to him to see whether he's trying to save me some cost or whether he's trying to keep the car as original as possible (which is what I'd asked him at the outset).

Done -- KYBs ordered. Thanks as always for your and everyone else's help!
