I think that rear door gives access to the box behind the rear window.

That could well be. I took it as the guy cut off the back of the greenhouse, and replaced the gaps with flat sheet metal. However, removing the doors would have required more extensive metal work, so he just didn't. A professional car manufacturer would have the skills to execute that.

But that's just my logic. To steal a phrase, I'm "frequently wrong, but never in doubt."

Yep most where built on caddy's like my 96 but there has always been company's that build anything you want . The rear doors open to a storage compartment under the floor.

I once found a Chrysler Town & Country Convertible 1946-48 abandoned in the Santa Rita Mtns in AZ around 1970. The back had been cut off and a makeshift pickup bed was grafted on. There was not much left of the car...wood had fallen off, about a foot of dirt was in side of it, no drivetrain. It was barely recognizable as a car. Even then I realized how sad it was and what it once had been when new...................
