Greetings, I purchased Headers off of e bay last year. The appilcation was for the 383 and the 440 engine. Currently, there are several companies that sell exact/simular headers for the same application. I can not tell the difference by looking at them.. The problem seems to be getting the drivers side header to fit. Looks to me aS Though the steering mech. is in the way. Anyone have any exp. with this? Im ready to put the headers back on ebay. What might be another choice? Thankyou.

I bought mine from Schumacher and they went right on and in, no mods at all with steering.

You are a lot better off with the stock exhaust manifold. You are only going to gain a couple of H.P. at best and a lot of grief burning up exhaust manifold gaskets and valve cover gaskets and loose header bolts.

Thank you for your input. Why would the headers cause me those problems/ Thanks.

Common problem with all headers......

Unless you have a serious racing setup there isn't really much of a gain with the headers. I forgot about other related problems not previously mentioned such as constantly burning up spark plug wires, collectors gaskets constantly burning out, collector bolts coming loose, bottoming out the headers on dips in the road, etc. You would be much better off with the factory exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust, and Flowmaster mufflers. You'll get about the same horsepower performance and performance sound with your 4500 lb car without all of the headaches.

I agree 100 percent! I had headers on my 67 coronet and were a complete nightmare. Of coarse I had long tubes. Had to lift motor up and remove header to change starter one time. I purposely went with a mild cam in my 300 so I could run stock manifolds. I have duals and flow master 40s. Quick enough for a big car. Mine defiantly has more bark then bite but she just a cruiser not a drag car.

what would look cool are the hp manifolds but they are pricy. They come up on eBay once an while. Think they came on the hp 440 6pack and hemi cars.

Good point.....

Even if you had the right headers the install would be difficult. And unless you had a mini starter you'll have a major pain getting the starter in and out when the heat from the header fry's the starter. Even wrapping the headers doesn't eliminate all of the heat.

I'm not trying to discourage you but merely telling you what I have experienced in the last 45 years with headers.

I have Hedman 78030 full length headers on my 1967 New Yorker. I have them because I like the looks of headers. I unbolted the motor mounts, raised the engine an inch or two and they slipped right in place. The only tight spot to maneuver around is the passenger side torsion bar. I installed them in my driveway in about an hour. The headers are not coated or wrapped yet I still have the original starter and oem style plug wires. I have not had any of the problems mentioned above.

Sounds great.

How long have you had them?

Headers aren't a horrible thing .. some of us would just rather not mess with them. Sounds like you have a nice fitting and well made set.

They're definitely not anything fancy. I believe the intended applications is for E-body cars but they were cheap on eBay at the time. They were used and I got them for under $100 including shipping.
