the 680 freeway at Pleasanton around 9:40 and lo and behold I see a restored 1962 Pontiac Tempest in the slow lane. With my attention focused on it as I pass by I quickly come next to a restored 1957 Tbird. Ok, a small caravan. Since they are moving at 60 mph I leave them behind.

Then farther up the rode I spot a set a well known tail fins in the distance. It is a restored Forward Look car. Have to wait to get closer only the tail lights throw me. I'm no expert of these cars. As I pass down the side of the car I see in gold script New Yorker. Yet tonight I can't find the correct New Yorker with those small horizontal red lights at the bottom of the fins.

Anyway this was a treat since I have never seen any Forward Look car out on the open road while it has been maybe 40 years since seeing a 1962 Tempest. Tbirds I see all the time.

Tall curvy fins seen on the 59s. The name on the back half of the front fender. Lots of vertical chrome garnish on the back half of the rear quarter. No lights in the tailfins only at the bottom and they do not curve around the bottom either.

this is the part where you need a camera phone to take these pics

it could of been a somebody customized their car?

No, this pic has the lights I was seeing and the right looking fins. Yet, the fact that the name was up on the front fender I am completely puzzled. The color below is exact.

That picture is a 59 Plymouth Sport Fury. Those tail lights would have only been used in the US on 59 Furys, Savoys, Plazas, and Belvederes. In Canada, the 59 Dodges (Regent, Mayfair), would have also had those tail lights. Also, 1959 DeSoto Diplomats built for export would have had those tail lights. If you saw those tail lights on a New Yorker, the car was certainly customized as nothing badged as a "Chrysler" or "New Yorker" would have had those tail lights.
