66 Polara w/ 318.

Rebuilt my Stromberg WW 3-259 but the throttle shaft is leaking pretty bad, I can't seem to get the idle under 1000 RPM. Rather thank re-bush I'm just gonna go with a remanufactured carb. I can go with either the Stromberg or the Carter.

Which one should I go with?

I wouldn't mind going with the Stromberg since I have all the fresh pieces from the rebuild kit, but I read somewhere (maybe here) that the carter replaced the stromberg due to issues.

Can someone elaborate on this?

thanks.

Even if your throttle shaft is worn you should be able to get the rpm under 1000,I would go back and check the A/F mixture, the timing ect,,most of our older carbs have shaft play and if it's really bad you can have it rebushed or just replace the carb with what ever is available,,a vaccume leak will usually cause a slow rough idle,,also check your adjustments after the rebuild, the idle speed adjustment, the choke and float settings,,,
