@Gergo posted this week about CL23T3C268817 -- a rare Chrysler Newport Navajo with 440 engine that he is restoring in Hungary. Look forward to seeing more of the car. In an example of the best of FCBO, @bigmoparjeff is helping him with a driveshaft and pointed him to this thread, where the 1973 Chryslers live :)

In other news, @73Gold has put CS23T3C166805 on the market. This 2dr JY6 NYB is based in Indiana; she was saved many years ago by @Clutch Carnage in Illinois.

Hi everybody,

This is a very cool thread!

I have a 1973 Newport Custom. I bought this car back in November 2020 so that I could have my dad help me rebuild on it. I'm actually an IT guy and my dad was a mechanic growing up. I helped him with all sorts of cars. However I never really had a chance for him to really help me and I know that I don't have much time left as he isn't able to work on cars anymore. So I picked up this Newport. Since I am an IT guy and my dad doesn't live close to me, I setup cameras at his house and mine so that he could walk me through things and just be "with" me as I yelled at stuck bolts. That idea worked great and we got closer then we ever through out this process.

Thank you for posting about your car here, and thanks for the photo album! She looks and is so much better than when you bought her.

For the fender tag: HT8 is Chestnut Brown Metallic

One question, if I may: it seems that you replaced the original rear view mirror with another. Medina, my 1971 T-code Monaco, had the same thing done under prior ownership -- is there a reason why you did so?

Thanks!

I actually replaced both the driver side and rear view just because of broken glass. If and when I find someone to repair each, I will get them back on.

Great looking car. How are you doing with a single plane intake on the street? I would think you are loosing plenty of bottom end torque.

To be honest, this is my first classic car that I have worked on. This is the type of feed back I need. What would be a better option? I see this original Mopar single plane M1 sells for $500 or more on Ebay. I could always get something else?

Good idea on selling the single plane M1, It is a great intake but it is designed for high RPM use.
Edelbrock Performer is a good street performance intake, it is a dual plane and looks close to stock with more performance and less weight.
If you can't get a performer a stock iron intake from 72 up is very good design. You will need to spend time cleaning it up and blocking off some sensor ports, EGR etc....
So finding a good Performer or just buy new will save a bunch of time.
What carb are you using currently?

What about something like this?

CHRYSLER Weiand 8008WND Weiand Action Plus Intake Manifolds | Summit Racing

great choice, good price. I was going to suggest a Weiand as another good choice.
Good thing with the Weiand is the square bore flange for your carb.

Ok I will go with that, only thing I need to figure out is how to fix this mess the guy before me made. As far as the throttle and kickdown. As you can see, they made part of it themselves. Thoughts?

This is a performer intake on 383

Have you tried the new AVS II carbs from Edelbrock yet? If so, comments?

I have never been all that impressed with previous Edelbrock carburetors on stock configurations nor have I been impressed with the AVS factory carbs either. I always felt the Holley 4160s from the factory on some Chrysler models always had more impressive off the line performance with strong performance from the get go (when they were new and the metering blocks were not all warped as most were after a couple years). Not so with the AVS carburetors - they always felt weak.
