The driving experience

1966 ford galaxy 500 4 door hard top. Back and fourth in the driveway. My Dad was a dodge guy for the most part, but this ford was a great deal and it was a beautiful car. I will never forget what it felt like to put that car In gear and move it all alone.

Mine was my grandfathers 68 Dodge pickup. I sat on his lap. I took care of the steering and he handled the pedals and assisted with the shifting duties. Three on the tree. I was four years old.

Learned to drive on grandpa's Allis Chalmers WD tractor when I was about 6 or 7. From there, more tractors, Oliver's mostly and also Dad's '49 Dodge pickup. First car was '55 Studebaker Champion.

My father had his own mechanic shop so I was moving cars around at an early age. It started driving my siblings cars on the back roads at about 13. I think my brother had a 73 Dart Sport. We had an 80 Gran Fury that was an ex PSP car. That was a fast car, not a good combination for a young driver.

My mom's 82 escort. She was a school teacher at my school, I would go out and start it in colder weather to warm it. One day a girl I wanted to impress or make a *** of myself whatever way you like was walking across the parking lot so I decided to squawk the tires and do a lap around the lot. Too much tire squeal and a taching 4 banger attracted her and the vice principal it just went down hill from there lol.

I'd like to imagine it was my dad's 69 GTO, I was really young and he let me steer down the road once (Hardly ever let me touch it after that lol). Otherwise I learned most of the basics on one of those Kawasaki Mules, I'm not sure if your familiar with those but they handle a lot like a car, but they are more like an offroad golf cart. I must have been around 8 when I started driving those things.

Otherwise I learned to drive on a 20-something Buick whatever. Not too big of a fan of buick's line. And I took my driving test with my first car, a 94 ford tempo.

not cool.

Nice! Did you restore it? Mine is a diesel, narrow front, doesn't look near as good as yours.

Did it come with the flat top fenders? Must be a later model year than the one I've got.

just in internet picture. the original is long gone. it did look like this one but with solid white wheels. think it was a 68 or so.

The first car I drove was my parents 73 Polara wagon. I passed the driving test in that car as well. The first car I bought on my own was a 73 Fury. Both were great cars, so I got hooked on C's early. Driving these cars now brings back good memories.

When I was eleven my parents left me home alone, with no sisters even, and the keys to the '77 chev "sundial" camper van on the counter. It was in the garage and the idea was just to start it up and listen to the engine, but once that V8 was running I couldn't help but put it in gear, just a little back and forth inside the garage, no one would know. However this particular van really "jumped" when put in gear, which my parents knew, not I, and when I put it in reverse and had it jump on me, my kid legs couldn't stomp on the brakes hard enough from atop the captains chair and the van ended up lodged into the double wide steel car door. I really enjoyed awaiting my parents arrival that day. Garage door was a write-off, spare tire bracket on rear door of van was slightly bent. Punishment was not as bad as I was expecting due to my parents knowing of the "jump" issue and procrastinating on having it fixed.
Years later learnt to drive the family van, '78 gmc passenger/window van.
First car registered in my name, 1969 Miller meteor Cadillac Hearse.

Now this was my first set of wheels .....back in 1962
