As you all may know i have been quietly watching and hunting for a 1970 Plymouth Sport Fury coupe and recently i had the opportunity to buy one of the rarest, a GT model fully numbers matching with fendertag intact in complete condition only missing a carb and air cleaner, it even had five original road wheels with it in good condition. I have been trying to sell my RT Challenger to fund the purchase and transportation of this vehicle and its been over three days since i made the offer of the RT and havent heard back yet. Unfortunately the GT sold today and i have missed out, all for the princely sum of $750. Ugh.

The first two cars we looked at before the Fury were a 455 76 LeSabre and a 73 440 NY'r. The latter was $900

Guess who didn't buy the 440 NY'r...

Nowhere near as cool as a GT, but I feel you.

Why didn't you snag the NY'r? that bad of shape was it in?

It had been stored for 30 years under a tarp, outside; my dad had convinced me it was to uneconomical for a daily driver (He was probably right.) and the Fury came up in the meantime and was going to end auction before the guy with the NY'r would be back in town.

Yeh, sounds like you made the right choice there....and no doubt that 440 would most likely eat your wallet alive....that fuel tank is huge.

Check those road wheels out, you dont see many around complete with trim rings and original early center caps20131016_165705.jpg

Now that's a bummer,,,, I feel your pain........ looks like my yellow one that's missing.... wheels & all less the 440 !!! :Groaner:

Sorry to hear it, I've been there. Keep looking there still out there.

That's a shame, sorry o hear about that. I went for the cash advance on the credit card to get my parts car. The fee was less painful than the regret.

You will find the right car, just keep looking. Time and persistence will pay off in the end.

Maybe someone will do a partial trade for your Chally? Always worth putting that up for consideration. When I look for stuff I like to put want ads on Craigslist. I figure out how far I'm willing to travel, then post up my ads in the area that the radius of travel will cover. I have been pretty fortunate to always find what I'm looking for.

You were a hundred percent sure thats a GT?
Yup, i got a photo of the fendertag and decoded it, definately a GT, check out the faded GT strobe on the fender, its hard to see but its there, this car was parked in 1975 from what i was told.GT strobe.jpg

Can't figure how you park a car like that and just forget about it for over 30 yrs? Takes little effort to at least maintain it where its parked.

The home and neighborhood was rather ghetto and he had a one car garage. I assumed he was using his garage for his car that he needed to not be stolen. You only have so many resources in that situation.
