Looking for a TQ airdoor tool, as they're impossible to get online and DynoRoom Tools isn't making his right now. If you're in or near NYC, I'll come pick it up even. It's the final adjustment I need to make on this puppy. TY!

The tool works well, BUT you can get by without one. Use two screwdrivers, one wide blade and one very thin blade. Use the thin blade to modulate the hold-down action of the large diameter "ring" with the two tangs the tool engages with. With the small screw loosened a slight bit, then use the large blade screwdriver to turn the outer ring (with the tabs) to adjust secondary air valve spring tension.

It's been about 50 years since I did that, but it is a two-handed operation, needing a bit of finesse to do. Takes a bit of practice, too. Back then, as TQuads were "more exotic" than the common GM Quadrajets, no real place to get the TQuad tool, so I got creative and improvised. When I did not get the alleged better fuel economy with the Carter spreadbore, I went back to the OEM AFB and later OEM-spec used Holleys (I rebuilt and finessed).

Enjoy!

I tried that but whoever had it before me kind of ate up the outer nut and I can't get a good grip on it. I'm a little nervous about eating it up even more and not being able to move it at all. This 440 had the TQ on it OEM so that's why I'm trying it. So far it's running better than it's ever run on anything else, even with the airdoors too tight (they never open).

My problem on my 383 was that when I got the air valve tight enough for no-bog when they opened, the springs would break. When adjusted to factory spec, too much too soon, it seemed. I was driving mostly on the primaries, anyway. I had a 9801 TQuad on a Torker 383 intake, with stock cam and such. The OEM AFB was about 550cfm.

Enjoy!

I'll bet this guy has the answer----> @Vaanth

The original Air Valve Tool was Carter 109P-397 or Miller Special Tools # C-4152B. Miller is now OTC. These are not available new any longer, but might be found used or NOS.

The last source that I knew of was DynoRoom Tools, but you discovered that it is no longer available as well. Bill Rolik has it listed, but apparently sold out: Thermo-Quad Air Valve Tool.

So, no known source at the moment.

Since you are in NYC, did you try Bill Rolik in NJ? ROLIK Enterprise. I remember them (the top picture) on a table, when he sells at Carlisle. I will be there next week, so I can look for him for you. Or, Give him a shout. I will check the Carlisle vendor roster to see if he still has a vendor space. I spent 43 years in NYC fixing elevators. I know it well. Steve Dolchih will be at Carlisle this year. He LOVES the thermoquad! You can pick his brain at Carlisle if you decide to go! Check the website.
