On to another wiring issue with my 70 Plymouth Fury III. You all helped me out so much on the headlights, so hoping for some more help on this.

When I bought the car I was told the switch was bad. I purchased a new switch, off ebay, and having issues. The new switch i bought does not have the same color wiring so I am wondering if that could be part of the issue. Also, the switch I took out had 2 plugs...I will attach photos. The new switch only has one. Can someone tell me what the small plug on the old switch would go to? I do not have a tilting wheel, just basic. When I use the old switch I get the flashers to work, but when I use a turn signal, the flashers come on. Thank you again for the help in advance!

I hope you have better luck with your repop switch than dozens have lately on F*BO sites. Most issues are with the brake lights not working on one side after using the turn signals. (fingers crossed for you)

A troubling issue to me is the mis-match of the wire colors between what's on the car and in the new switch! Might check the factory wiring schematic in the Chrysler factory service manual, which can be downloaded from www.mymopar.com . Might need to manually input that address.

CAN the terminals be easily removed to get the colors to match per the FSM?

Take care,
CBODY67

Does anyone know the correct part number for the oem turn signal switch? I have cornering lights but no tilt. I cant seem to find the correct part number to buy an oem one off Ebay. I think it may be part #2947356 or 3575921. The wires watch up for part number that ends in 7356...but the ads say it is for a Chrysler newport?

I'm not sure of the part number, but here's my advice. The listings on eBay for fitment are notorious for being wrong. Depend on the part numbers and common sense.

Before you spend hard earned money, are you sure the switch is bad? IIRC, there were some wiring issues that needed sorting out (please correct me if wrong). The turn signal switch does fail, no doubt, but like a lot of other things, is often changed when it isn't the problem.

You're absolutely right about the ebay listings! Yes I am having wiring issues with the car. I cannot get the turn signals to work, When I use the old switch, the left and right turn signal lights on the dash just illuminate, and they do not work on the car. When I put the new ebay switch in....when I use the turn signals, the flashers come on and my tail lights do not work. The old switch atleast gives me very dim tail lights.

That is likely to be a ground issue. The easy way to check is with a temporary jumper wire from a good ground to the housing(s).

I was afraid of that, I had to replace two bulb housings with aftermarket and they are loose in the housings. Can't seem to get them to secure like oem. And I haven't been able to locate any tail light housings for the 70 fury

DON'T GO TO EBAY UNTIL YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED, AND THEN, BE SURE THE VENDOR IS ACTUALLY SELLING THAT! Mind you, I use eBay QUITE a good deal of the time for my part purchases, but sometimes, one should use another vendor. For turn signal switches, I recommend Rock Auto, first, then Parts Geek, then, if the previous two outfits can't get anything, some eBay vendors.

I'm "blessed" with a Saginaw steering column on our '68 Newport, requiring a Saginaw type turn signal switch. The original maker, Sheemar, is still in business fortunately. I see that an outfit called SKP sells one for 1970 Plymouth Furies, for just $27.

Go to Rock Auto, and look at this from Sheemar, which strongly resembles the SKP product for 1970 Newports AND Furies, and see if this might meet your need:

More Information for SHEE-MAR SM108

Shee-mar is still in country here. If what you already have resembles this product, then use what you have, though you had best match things up with what's in the FSM wiring diagram. It appears the SM108 is for no tilt, w cornering lights.

Double check this Rock Auto reference too. Again, trust NONE of these net vendors just once.

That's probably most of your issue.

I've replaced sockets, usually I just put the rear edge of the new socket on something solid and tap the little "fingers" (don't know what else to call them LOL) with a punch. The mating surfaces need to be clean.

The other option is soldering a bit of wire to the new sockets and running that over to a ground.

Try a junk yard, and again, shop for a whole tail light assembly. Best way to get those deeper sockets Ma Par actually used. See if stuff from models within a couple years will work also. For example, the tail light sockets used in my '66 Newport work just dandy for the '68! I know the body style changed significantly starting in 1969, but I wouldn't be surprised if the sockets for stuff from 1969-1973 all are the same, if they differ from the older stuff even. Have a look. Those generic replacements from Standard SUCK! I know, having used one once until I got another set of tail lights for the '66.

For example: NOS Mopar 1970 Plymouth Fury I II Left Tail Light Assembly | eBay

I hadn't thought about soldering wire to the housing, but that might be what I end up doing. I can't seem to get the socket to fit snug

Try stripping some stranded #12 about 2 inches, wrapping it around that damned generic socket, then ground it to something substantial. If the bulb lights up BEFORE you plug the socket into the assembly, it will once you do so. Worked for me for a year. Check out that NOS assembly I linked too.

Pardon Our Interruption...

Thank you, I will give that a try! My 70 has the 3 light tail light housing unfortunately

ALAS! But, look for some used stuff Here and There, and see if you can score some better light sockets. Even some Chebbie might have something more useful. An afternoon junkyarding can yield a bountiful harvest of useful parts for our half century old rides.

That just started on my Coronet wagon after changing just the turn signal cam.

Those cheap turn signal switch reproductions do not last, be prepared to do the job again in short order. Key identifiers, the yellow cancel cam, the lack of a horn slip ring contact wheel, and strange color coded wiring in the pigtail. They are manufactured off-shore, sold by many resellers under various brand names and part numbers. Better off to find an OE NOS, modify the terminations as/if needed. That particular switch head was used well into the eighties on various other platforms including trucks and vans, the model specific pigtail and connector can be transferred or spliced fairly easily.
