Vintage NASCAR

there was a guy that ran a 410 sprint car out here named ''turnover turner'' could have been related to curtis .
You never know. Curtis was one of the original NASCAR "bootlegger" stars. Love his booze, women & fast cars. Was in his share of scraps too. He could wheel a race car. He was a NASCAR champion

This is the Petty race car junk yard. Very old pic. I believe this is the car Richard was badly injured in at Darlington in 1970

The 1961 Daytona 500 crash between Johnny Beauchamp in the 73 Impala & Lee Petty in the 42 Plymouth Fury. Lee Petty was seriously injured & it ended his driving career. The crash was widely believed to have been on purpose as Beauchamp pushed Pettys car right into & over the wall

Petty & Beauchamp didn't get along & this is likely why. The inaugural Daytona 500 finish in 1959 came down to Petty in the 42 Plymouth Fury & Beauchamp in the #73 T Bird. The #48 car up top is a lap down. Beauchamp was originally declared the winner , but Petty protested & demanded a review. It took two days to get film developed from a photographer who was standing at the line. Later there was also video. It clearly showed Petty getting to the line first. Although too late for the victory party. Lee did get the trophy & prize money 2 days later. Beauchamp was pissed. I guess it boiled over in the 61 race
