I remember hearing Steely Dan on American Bandstand in the early 1970's like it was yesterday.

I don't know what happened to him except that he was recovering from a medical procedure and missed the last 2 concerts.

I started listening to them in 1973, and was hooked from that point on. Why do I feel so damn old today? RIP, Walter Becker.

Their first album came out in 72 which made me 20. My high school friend, Ron, who by then had hundreds of albums, always got The Rolling Stone, and knew the pedigree of every band and band member called me up one day. He said to come over as he just got this new album by a new band and I should listen to it. Took a whole 5 minutes to get down there. Not too many of their songs are played even on rock and roll stations but fortunately I have their LPs. This thread made me think of two things. One, Ron who I haven't talked to in 30 years after moving to Colorado and two, of their minor hits, Bodhisattva a great track.
