I have a 68 Sport Fury with 440 and 727 Trans, would like to change from column to floor shifter. It doesnt have to be the OEM floor shifter if it makes it easier or less expensive.

I had a ‘70 conversion for sale a few years ago. Not the same, but similar. Might give you an idea of what is needed. The column also would need to be changed unless you don’t care about the OEM look. Good luck!

What you really need to do in any "I want to modify" decision is to clarify what you wish, what parts etc are necessary, (are they even available) and what re-engineering is required to make a dream reality ($$$$ perhaps) and whether you have the competence to successfully pull off the conversion or pay someone to do so ($$$$).

Apart from losing that vehicle's originality, (possible difficulty selling it later if you wish) there is always a chance the results won't live up to the dream.

All that aside, nobody here wants you to be disappointed should you proceed, and our comments are intended to advise what to do or not do based on years of experience and seeing so many people start projects like this, spend $$$$ then lose heart and sell at a loss when it doesnt work out.

It's a matter of engineering, get that right first and the rest is easy, get it wrong and !@#$.

Best wishes from us all.

This car is a mix of parts and not a show car by a long shot but I would like to take it to the drag strip more and the column shifter makes it difficult to shift at times and get the right gear.

I dont even mind not doing the whole console just a shifter on the tunnel would be fine or if I need to fab up something so it sits higher that is ok. Big thing I am wondering about is shift linkage etc on something that isnt the stock shifter.

You can go with a B&M rachet shifter, they operate with a cable, so that has to be routed somehow. The stock style, you'd need all the bits in the photo posted above, from a donor car if you can find one, or get lucky and find someone selling a complete setup. You'd also need the mounting brackets off the floor.

It all comes down to the engineering, get advice from competent automotive engineers then, once everything is sorted out, proceed with the build and enjoy the results.

Make a plan, work your plan, enjoy.
Best wishes

I see some out there that say for 727 trans but if I search by vehicle those dont show up so wondered what was different that they didnt work.

Low 12's Big Chrysler Stroker Watch how he does it. I say put money in the engine/drive train.

What about one of these? I can feel the increase in HP just looking at it.
