Keep the one on you 1970. No need to change it.I'm looking to replace this part on a 1973 440 motor. Looks like there are only 3 connections (2 plug ins and a red screw terminal) instead of the 4 connections on my 1970.
A starter relay with 3 terminals is for a stick shift car. 4 terminals is an automatic car.I'm looking to replace this part on a 1973 440 motor. Looks like there are only 3 connections (2 plug ins and a red screw terminal) instead of the 4 connections on my 1970.
No, not ground. The red wires are from the battery. Yellow goes to the ignition switch (note my correction above). Brown with yellow stripe to the neutral safety switch on the trans. #12 brown wire (other screw connection) goes to the starter. You are missing the brown one because the engine is out. Many thanks to everyone who replied! The pic is of my '70 Fury. I have another '73 Fury being worked on that has the motor uninstalled. Currently there are only 3 wires visible in the engine bay (2 plug-ins and the red screw connection). I suspect the 4th wire would be the ground screw connection. I do have a reprint of the Chilton(?) manual. Both are automatic.
