What is this?

I found this on my 1972 Polara parts car, it's mounted to the right side cowl, the round diode on the back goes through a hole in the cowl to help keep it cool. Part # 3656078 stamped on the front, part 3438485 on the diode, I haven't been able to locate these numbers in any book.

This is the front, three tabs for electrical connections, one burnt wire that runs to the diode. My other car does not have this part.

I would guess it's a temp control for an A/C car,,,,
