Just when I thought I was getting ahead. I'm Looking at a $2500 dollar bill. "Bullit" has been all over the states with me for almost 13 years . I took him to the Vet. He tore his ACL on the ice. I found him in the back yard he couldn't get up. He's getting old like me.

Looks like I'll just have to sell a couple more things. He is my best friend next to "duke".

I catch myself talking to him Like he understands every word when we're in the garage or going down the road in the truck.

He would see deer before me and bark Save me many times. Just a cool dog. I'll miss him when he's gone . So i'll do what I can to keep him around.

That's always a tough one. Dogs are awesome companions. I don't even spend 2500 when I'm sick ahahaha. But I can certainly understand. I've sat with more than a couple animals in their last hours (also grew up farming and still do it part time), so it's great when you can save one.

Awe, man, that's a painful one. My youngest did that when she was only two... she healed up after surgery just fine though.
Best to you and him. My first dog, a blonde lab lived to 21 yrs.. I'll bet your buddy has got at least that in him!

For me it is no question, my dog is just like my kids. My "Buddy" is 17 years old, like me has arthritis, has food sensitivities, but he has been with me thru thick and thin since he was 6 months old.

My current pack consists of Artemus, my 6 yr old Malamute/husky. My first dog since my boyhood dog was put down.

Cara, an awesome little girls I rescued out of Georgia.

Daisy, my "step kid". A very gentle and loving black lab.

And Astoria... the queen of the castle. She's a 16 yr old snow bengal I found outside of a barn in Ferdale Washington. We crossed the border into Canada the proceeded to Montreal by car then back down to Connecticut. Rode on my shoulder the whole way.

I'd jump in front of a train for any of em.

That is tough. Our holidays were spent caring for our dog. Herniated disk in her neck. With initial vet visits to determine what was going on then referred to a vet neurologist, MRI, surgery, and incidentals, it cost about 7K all said and done. She's back to her obstinate self now though so it was worth it. Glad we were able to spend the money, hope we never have to again.

one of my boxers has a blown out leg right now that is just barely connected. we had to stop chasing ball. but we were thinking about taking the leg off. harsh, but cheaper. and the ACL surgery is not guaranteed. and a boxer is very very active. just my scenario. you aint alone.

Sweet dog for sure - they are the best! I hope all goes well and I too would spend that sum to get him going again. Well worth it.

As an aside, is that a Horizon or Omni you two are sitting next to? It has been a long time since I have seen one. I really liked those cars even though they are half the size of a C body.

Take care

Dogs are always a good investment. You'll always get 100% plus more in return.
Like the old saying "You can lock your dog and wife in the trunk...."

It never stops, but when it comes to your dog, it's hard to say no.

One bit of advice to anyone: if you get a new puppy, immediately get pet insurance. I say immediately, because if they have any pre-existing issues, the pet insurance won't cover it. Since the puppy is just that, it most likely won't have anything that is pre-existing.

Having had family members who had to shell out thousands of dollars on surgery for their pets, this can save your finances as well as your pup.

Had to put down our last dog a few years ago... and I still miss him. I hope Bullit can be made comfortable and recovers well... it's hard when you can't explain to them the pain will help them heal.

I lost two of my knuckleheaded Great Danes within six months of each other.

The brindle colored dog bloated (his stomach and intestine twisted) and we spent the $$ for surgery that wasn't even close to being successful. Lesson learned was that some emergency vets are just in it for the money.

Since that's something that Danes are vulnerable to, and the success rate is pretty low on surgery, we made the decision ahead of time that if it happens to the Dane we have now that we won't do the surgery. It sounds a little heartless, but after talking to our regular vet (who wasn't available when this happened), we know that we don't have to make a decision under stress.

We have this big goof now.

Pets are way better than people.

We got him with the rest of the litter 04. We were at a race track out west. and there were yellow puppies running around the track. we helped gather them and the track officials took them. When I went looking for one for my daughter I found they drown them all.

They were ready to drown a litter of black pups. There eyes were barely open and they were in a metal crate with a chain on it. I took the whole litter of nine with me. Found one a home on the way back. The rest we found homes for . EXCEPT " Bullit "

We kept them in the couch all weekend and they road home in the truck 37 hours in the rain with the windows down because we couldn't stand the smell. They all lived and got good homes. The couch was shot so we left it at the track. We advertised them for $250 but gave them for free once people came . we were sure they were going to good homes and not for resale using this method.

Well done, man.
