It has been awhile since I have bought ignition points for my 60 Imperial.
Has anyone used NAPA points with success or is there a better option?

The new ones suck low spring tension and high fail rate on the condensers. I have a bunch of delco nos sets I have listed also a bunch of nos mopar if needed,

Sorry did not catch the year these?

Unless there is an issue with the existing condenser, re-use it. FEW were actually changed "back then"!

Back then, there were points with higher spring pressure and "normal" points. Allegedly for higher rpm capabilities, but a normal engine doesn't even get close to needing that additional pressure in normal use. Even at WOT "kickdown", engine rpm seldom will get past 4500rpm, by observation.

NAPA should have good quality stuff AND if they're close to your location, that's good too.

KEY THING on points is putting the "point grease" on the rubbing block!! Many brands of point sets in the '80s tended to delete that grease vial from them. Along about the same time that complaints of needing to install electronic ignition kits to get around the "poor point life" situation. IF done correctly, gap/dwell adjustment, with the point grease on the rubbing block of the points, 20K miles should be obtainable before another set is needed.

There is a hole in the bottom of the distributor housing (below the centrifugal weights) that vents the distributor to the crankcase. Be sure the road draft tube is open so that all crankcase "gases" don't vent into the distributor, which can also affect point life.

Mallory Ignition Products, even after Super Shops bought them, sold "point lube" in a tube. "Lifetime supply" of sorts. Not sure if they still have it after their later buy-out by Holley? Might need to do an online search.

Is dielectric grease ok to use? That's what I have been using on my points.

The original point grease was thinner and less viscous than the dielectric silicone grease for spark plug boots and such. Kind of a mix between petroleum jelly and chassis grease? I'm thinking that some synthetic chassis grease, with moly (i.e., Ford-spec front wheel bearing grease) might be pretty decent to use?

I think I need to follow this to make sure I get some good lube on mine before I fire it up.

Google comes through again! "Distributor Cam Grease". Mallory 26015, but Summit has "not available" on that page. EuroMotoelectrics has it CS-Lube. ACDelco U1901, Bosch P905536, and of course, AMAZON has several brands, too. MACS, SuperLube, Std Ignition, and others. Some in a tube and others in a single use packet.

This forgotten maintenance item is still out there, more choices than I ever suspected. Amazon might be the best shot, but the one time I wanted to buy something from them, I couldn't get past the sign-up for Amazon Prime to get to the checkout page! Their price for the larger tube is about $13.00, which will last many lifetimes, but adding the cost of Amazon Prime to that would make it far too expensive, IF you're not already in Amazon Prime. Might be listed as "Distributor Point Grease", too?

So, look around on the supplier websites for the best deal. I'd recommend Summit, but not sure if they're going to get any more in. Check and see.

Whatever u use spring pressure has to be 20-24 or you get point float.

I always use Blue Streak points . I change them twice a year and get them at my local parts shop. Just wondering who makes the correct grease for them if any.
