Where was this Mopar Brochure/Ad Photo shot?

one player reports location and the answer to other questions. question 3 really cant be answered without speculation (unless you've been there) or you've examined digital pics of area in a map application.

two folks in correctly. not fooled by the illustrator or the internet.. at the end maybe they, or others, will weigh in on their m.o.

answer in a couple of days. thanks for playing..

good to hear from you man.

this one appears to have run its course. three people got it, some untold number may have got it, its getting lots of views but many fewer solvers - usually a sign its lost its legs.

Answer tomorrow. another one next week unless some other OP runs one. thanks

this is Grand army plaza in NYC, fifth avenue at 59th roughly. the two monuments are there. the one on the left is the General William Sherman statue (erected 1902) of Civil War notoriety, the one on right is the Pulitzer fountain (erected 1916).

couple obvious artistic liberties are the two monuments were never and still aren't so close together such a picture could ever to be taken. Plus Sherman statue faces the pulitzer fountain - always has since it was erected 120 years ago. cars aint that big and the angles/distances just don't work.

a favorite, famous location for Chrysler advertising for many years around NYC as we've been here before. plus the Apple store, GM Building, edge of Central Park, and Plaza Hotel are here.

New Game.

Pretty easy. We have been here (to this city) many times. I have driven through, recently (mar 2025) and for many years, but never knew what it was. this ad/photo is from 1955. Light blue car is an early 50's something Cadillac.

1. City and State.
2. Approximate location in this city.
3. Can this picture be roughly recreated (ignore landscaping, AI, laws, and other superficial/artificial changes or permanent structures in 70 years which may now be visible.

Answer in a few days.

this location is relatively famous. its "old school" civil engineering that remains relevant/emulated today. like most pubic works projects, we take it for granted but thats a lot of engineering going on there.

i am not an engineer but my nerdy upbringing finds this set of structures fascinating - design, planning and execution in the analog age surviving into the digital/earthquake/safety standards age.

once/if you find it, there's a ton of stuff out there on it. chances are, if you're a local, youve driven through here many times over the years perhap not knowing what it was/represented.

it was so easy, as ubiqiutous as i found it to be when I first solved it to be OP.:) I nerded out on the story of its origin. Wasn't a moonshot but it took some expert noodlin"

Four peple reported success.

This is Los Angeles California. The loation is four stack exhange where the Arroyo Seco Parkway, Harbor Freeway, Santa Ana Freeway and Hollywood Freeway, (101 and110) meet. It is locally known as the Bill Keene Interchange. Built 1948,opened 1953.

Still there today. First four level interchange in world, nearly 80 years ago.

I am not sure but I believe 50's the color photo is looking southeasterly i THINK. the one builing in the upper left is Los Angele City Hall. https://www.pbssocal.org/shows/lost-la/l-a-s-famous-four-level-freeway-interchange.

There are many kinds of interchanges we have all driven on in or near big cities that predate WWII/coincide with building interstates. cloverleafs, diamonds, and "stacks" p
re dominate. Civil engineers/Urban planners make decisions bases on how much space they have/demolition of existing structures they need,(fraughtwith politics/controversy.. ala freeway in urban areas) population density, traffic flow they want to manage/maintain, geography/seismic zone they had to retrofiit LA for earthquakes 30 years ago), etc.,

LOTTA REINFORCED CONCRETE!! many times lotta urban domain litigation.
