Why does this Chrysler look so odd?

Googling has shown me that the Newport and 300's got the "notchback" roofline and the New Yorker got the "sleeker" roofline.
Check for yourself....

Yup, '57 and '58 Chryslers and DeSotos did the same in the 2drhts.

Desoto; The Firesweep and Firedome had the short rear glass and the Fireflite and the Adventurer had the tall window.

Chrysler; The Windsor and Saratoga had the short window and the New Yorker and 300 had the tall window.

However, (of course) I have seen '58 Saratogas with both style rear windows... Maybe Canada was involved here also..?
 
That original car's roofline suggests they were testing out a new ad campaign, the followup to 1957's.
