I pull the '66 Imp out for a ride and had No power Brakes and Hissing from under dash when Brakes applied. Is it Time for a Booster Rebuild ? Drove car last week about 75 miles and it was fine. All hoses are in place and Booster is Original. Any Thoughts ? Thanks in advance .

It could be the check valve is broken and leaking. Check that first as it's rather simple to check and replace.

The hissing appears to be coming from the brake pedal push rod (Inside of car).

Hissing under the dash is a clear indicator of a dead booster.

Mine is currently at "Booster Dewey" as Big _John mentioned, since mid-September. It's a six week turnaround time (I'm good with that), so you'll have to plan for an immobile Imp unless you can find a temporary/borrowed booster like I fortunately did from a member here.

Just for another option, you can check these guys out as well:

Rebuild and Return - Harmon Classic Brakes

What is the going rate for a rebuild these days ?
It's a Bendix unit.

I was contemplating using one of these:

Right Stuff RPB8001: 8" Brake Booster Mopar Dual Diaphragm - JEGS High Performance

They're for a b-body and will mount to the master cylinder. Anyone tried something like this? A source of new boosters would be very desirable. How difficult would it be to do a few mods to make it work?

The B body boosters have a smaller pushrod and the bolt pattern for the studs that mount the booster to the car are different. You have to make a bunch of modifications to use it. It's not worth the trouble. Just get yours rebuilt.

The longer we talk about it the longer you’ll be waiting to get it back from Dewey and Steve.
