Distraction can be deadly

That movie never made any sense to me....even as a comedy.

I was real close to getting drafted at the very end of Vietnam.......I decided to enlist in 1976 and get my military service (3 years) in before we were involved in another war. All of my friends were in Vietnam with the Army or Marine's and I wanted to experience the military too. My Dad (Korea) and Grandpa (WWI) were in the Army. My plan was to serve 3 years and get out. I liked the first 3 years and decided to re-up with the intent of doing 20 years and retiring. My wife didn't care one way or another as long as I was getting paid. My Ma wasn't overjoyed about it but my Dad and Grandpa were fine with me staying in and making a career out of it. My Dad and both Uncle's later said that they all wished that they stayed in for 20 years and retire from the Army.

But, but, but. The draft lottery ended Jan. 27th, 1973 by order of the Secretary of Defense a date that lives forever in my mind. I was eligible that spring, and with #13, it was obvious what would happen. From that point on service was now voluntary.

The gene pool is so polluted now, it's infested with fungii posing as humans.

Ain't that the truth. A line from a song I heard years ago goes something like this,

"Been around the world and found that only stupid people are breeding, the Cretans cloning and feeding, and I don't even own a TV..."

Watch the movie "Idiocracy". It explains that theory and the results so well that it scares me.

To be honest while computers are nice I really hate tech especially smart phones and tablets. I was in the city 2 weeks ago for the first time since 2004 even though I lived there from 1986-1998. Boy, it was like I had been asleep for 100 years. Everybody is walking around that town with their heads buried in smart phones.

Well I for one agree with you. Having worked in the tech sector for going on 30 years now, I personally think smart phones are one of the worst tech inventions created and are only behind cell phones when it comes to abuse. And mind you, I say this not because the technology is bad but because so many people abuse it and use it as an electronic pacifier for themselves. I realize not EVERYONE does this but far too many people do.

I see people driving and d**king around on there cell phones/smart phones and I wonder how stupid these people can be. When asked, "Would you run a chain saw while talking on the phone? Would you work a radial saw while talking on the phone? " They emphatically say "No! Doing that wouild be crazy!" But they think nothing of being behind the wheel of a 3000 lb car moving at 30 MPH and not paying attention to the road.

Heavens forbid people if you aren't constantly entertained, stimulated or otherwise occupied and that you have to..I dunno..look around and see what is going on in the world around you or possibly ponder your own thoughts for more than 30 seconds.

One day I was driving through town and I see a husband and wife on a bench. Beautiful sunny day out, and here they are both on a bench, smoking their cigs with their faces buried in their smart phones.

I sooo badly wanted to yell at them that their "smart" phones weren't working in making them smarter.

Thanks for the chance to rant.

Iowa class wtf was I thinking, sorry. Why can't they make cars turn the headlights on when the wipers are on this simple thing would reduce the number of accidents in the rain and its always the assholes in grey and silver cars that are driving around in a hard rain with a lot of spray no lights. Speaking of distractions who's brilliant idea was it to put a tv screen in the center of dash, I know that if you not doing something on it no need to look, BUT how many times have you sat down ran though a bunch of channels said there is nothing to watch you were still looking even though you know theres nothing to watch.

My wife's Ford Edge and my Chevy Impala (company car) both have that feature.

Automatic headlights when the wipers are on is an excellent idea and the law in most states.

Its a stupid idea and a more stupid law.

The driver should be able to figure out when he needs his accessories, if not, he should nt be driving

My employer just went on a cost savings binge and took away most employee's Blackberrys. Now I'll need to relearn how to do my job the old school way with the landline on my desk. This is the first weekend without the BB in years. It's an odd feeling not having an electronic leash. I kind of like it.

I dont want the car to do anything but go. I'll decide when i can back up, go forward, need wipers, lights , a defroster........

I cant do my job to todays standards without a cell, e mail or text. I make 60 calls s day and answer just as many
