I drive a public transit bus and have so for 32 years. I drive across the University of Washington campus (Seattle) five days a week right now. Not all students are looking at their cell phones, but many are! So they are not paying attention as my bus approaches. Many are wearing ear-buds listening to their phone/ipod so they probably don't hear the noise of the engine as my bus gets closer to them. My blood pressure goes up as I go across campus, particularly when classes let out and thousands of student pour out of numerous classrooms onto the sidewalks to get to their next class. I haven't hit anyone yet, but I do watch them like a proverbial 'hawk'. I always breathe a sigh of relief when I get across campus and away from all those students, many of which are not paying a whole lot of attention to their surroundings. Am surprised there aren't more accidents on campus. Guess it's a blessing there aren't, or at least I haven't seen them!
