UNBREADED! '71 Monaco Wagon

The engine is running! But it needs some tuning, and for some reason, it doesn't like it when the timing is adjusted, either way. It likes to run in one spot, and one spot only.

Edit. After talking with Wyatt, the engine runs better when the distributor is not fully tightened, but backed off where you can adjust timing by turning it. So he will see what's happening today, and hopefully have it sorted out. He said it runs fine loose, but like crap when he tightens it. Getting closer.

Have Wyatt check the Dizzy shaft for looseness...radially and vertically. My guess is the rotor is hitting the cap when screwed down tight.

I talked with @halifaxhops, and after examining some pictures Wyatt sent me, we've concluded it's a ground issue. Wyatt will be getting over to his shop soon and scraping a little paint and will let me know. I'll have him check the shaft while the distributor is out.

It was a ground issue, some scraped paint and it got good ground. But a bad vacuum advance diaphragm showed itself, so a distributor will be coming from @halifaxhops in the near future.

A few pictures thanks to @ayilar, who picked up his 1972 New Yorker Brougham, Buttercup.

The car looks great. Here are a couple of others, including one with Buttercup and @71polara383’s Servprolara.

Wyatt gave the paint a buffing tonight. Gonna be the nicest car in the fleet when I get it home. Still has some patina, so I'm not completely out of my comfort zone.

Your wagon is looking great Scott, it sure is coming around nicely! I'm gonna be using the same type of wheel on my green Monaco. This is an awesome thread, very happy for you buddy!

What?!? No road wheels? :poke: I'm happy I got the car, Dave wouldn't have bought a complete pile, like I have in the past, so I knew I was getting a pretty solid car. It's going to be a well used cruiser, I plan on putting a lot of miles on the car. I just hope the dogs like it!

Loaded up and ready to go, soon to be homeward bound. Thanks to @sixpkrt, 71polara383 for helping me load up the mower and UNBREADED.

Good seeing you again Scott.
Thanks for letting me dive it for the beer run. That wagon is kick ***.
Wyatt made that car a keeper for you.

Just about 24 hours after I left, I'm back home with the wagon. I picked it up at Wyatt's six months to the day, that I picked it up from that blonde haired guy in Idaho.

There's a few things to tinker with, but I'll put some miles on the car before it goes into storage.

Finally took the car for a spin, it's now parked in the driveway for some regular, albeit short, daily use. I need to tinker with the carb idle speed, replace whatever the hell is holding the fan on with a stock item, and some other little items on the car. Next spring I will probably replace the front steering pieces, it wanders a little going down the road. Plenty of other things to mess with as well.

That's the plan. Show 2 of the year, Carlisle show 3, and who knows after that.

Really love the look of that car. Those TorqueThrust 'D's really set it off.

I think that last pic puts you squarely in the "you suck!" club! That is looking so nice, and the wheel choice really helps the overall appearance. Very good!

When you get ready to register that, can I get one of the Oregon plates from you?

Thanks Patrick, I appreciate it.

It's already registered, and has a Minnesota plate on the the rear bumper. I'm keeping the front plate on, and the other one is going up on the garage wall. If I change my mind, I'll let you know.
