But the A-1 is/was an attack plane, not a fighter. The difference between an A and a P/F determines the plane's role.

Yes, A was for Attack. Pursuit was changed to Fighter after WWII. I always found the designation F-51 a little weird.

There is a P-51A similar to this one at the Chino Air Museum. I saw it fire up, taxi away, and fly off one day. Very cool! Very rare.

Two damaged B-26 bombers were combined to create "Half + Half"... 322nd BG. A half & half was a pub drink that was favoured by some American Air Force crews. In a regular beer glass, the bottom half is a pale ale, then carefully poured on the top to avoid mixing, is Guinness stout. Which explains the beer mug.

Subject to serviceability, weather and no natural disasters, XL231 will be carrying out a high speed taxy demo on Elvington's runway, courtesy of Elvington Event's limited, the owners of the Airfield.

Flt Lt Ollie Suckling will be in the Left hand seat, Myself in the right and the AEO will be dependable stalwart Sqn Ldr Alan Stephenson. Crew Chief will be Grant Sparks (former Chief Tech).

A dedicated viewing area will be available, for details please check out the Yorkshire Air Museum website. In addition, it is intended to taxy the Museum's Nimrod XV250 and earlier in the day Ollie Suckling and myself will taxy (subject to serviceability) Douglas DC3 Dakota KN353 (G-AMYJ) for the first time since restoration.
