Hoping you guys can point me in a direction. When I drive my Fury I notice a wobble at certain speeds, it seems the 40-55 mph range the car shakes or wobbles. Trying to research on the inter web it seems a common cause could be a result of the tires either being out of balance or having flat spots. The front and rear tires are mismatched and both show they are aged although plenty of tread left. I was hoping to drive the car as is for the summer but not with a wobble!

Before I chalk this up to just bad tires, what items should I be looking at under the car? Universal joints? Axles? Bent drive shaft? All of the above? None of the above?

I am by no means a mechanic I simply prefer to try myself and learn before taking her to the shop. And if it comes to that I would still plan to do the work, I am just not great at troubleshooting.

Thanks all!

definitely check for worn out u joints slop in the driveshaft very wel could be unbalanced tires check for slack in upper and lower u joints...

Ball joints and related parts or a bad tires would be the first place I'd check.

I was all set to replace the lower ball joints as my car was all over the place.

Ended up being the idler.

My truck had a bad shimmy at 65-75, though tit would need new king pins, ended up just tires, 80+ steady as can be.

So yes, check everything.

I will crawl under and start checking . I will definitely check if any wheel weights came off, I recently removed the hub caps and found two of the wheels missing lug nuts! Luckily my parts car had both L and R nuts, no pun intended!

Any way to check for unbalanced tires myself or is this a job for an alignment shop?

Get the build date off the inner bead from all four of your tires or have them decoded at any tire shop. If any of them are over 8 yearz old you're playing Russian Roulette with your-Body and your C-Body period! The other places to look have already been noted. Good luck on your search, Jer

I would also check the front wheel bearing adjustment.....pronto.

And make sure the cotter pins are in.

Good call on checking the build date on the tires. I suspect they are 8+ years old based on the PO telling me the car was partially restored 8 years ago!

As far as checking the front wheel bearing "Adjustment", is this in the FSM? I didn't realize you could adjust the bearings. Will also make sure the cotter pins are in place.

Possible Eureka moment. Have you had them out and re-lubed and replaced them?

I have not. I tried to find the build date and wasn't able to, I suspect it is on the other side of the wheel. I drove around this weekend and noticed the wobble was worse when cold and got slightly better as the car/tires warmed up so it seems to point to the tires. I would like to replace all four of course part of me also wants to upgrade to front discs and I think that means I need at least 15" wheels.

On B bodies you can swap to 10.87 rotor setup and use 14" wheels, or 11.75 and must use 15" or bigger wheels. I don't know about the interchange possibilities with C bodies.

I'm gathering parts to put 11.75's on my R/T .. I think they look better with 15" wheels anyway

Thanks for all the advice on my wobble, I finally got new wheels and tires. I went with 15" in preparing to upgrade to front disc brakes. No more wobble wobble! After looking more closely, the old front passenger tire had a visible bubble.

I think it looks great. I was looking for something similar to what the factory had on the '68 Sport Fury.

Thanks! They are Torque thrust II wheels I think, PVD finish which is apparently the new chrome and supposed to be easier to maintain and last longer.
