What's your Daily Driver?

I like that Apron on the grille, this was a common sight in Europe back in the day with cars and trucks before winters got so weak.

This is my spring and autumn DD, a true no-mopar, lol. Or actually it's my Weekly Driver, since I don't have to leave my house everyday anymore.

Occasionally I drive it in winter, too. If the weather is bad (snowstorm, salt salt salt, polar bears on the road etc) I stay home or borrow my wife's DD if it is available.

In summer my vert is my WD, of course.

For getting to work I run an 06 Corolla, hauling the family 07 Town & Country, warm weather '83 Honda V65 Magna. This year the bike is going to be in fair weather competition with the 68 NYer. Actually if temperatures aren't above 45° in the morning it will probably be the NYer. I've ridden the bike and it's take hours to warm up once at work.

Yo answer your question, probably not! LOL! What compartment are you referring to Stan?
I am curious where you got your running boards from...
Pull up the center armrest and pop off the cushion. There's a nice handgun compartment there.
The running boards were from some company that has long gone out of business.
The step you see on the running board was added by me for my wife.

wondered about the extra step

I'll give it a go. I'll need a hand gun though first!

I've been looking at that step. Right now I carry a stool that my wife uses for my Ford. I've been reluctant to add a step, but it's a PITA to get the stool out all the time.

I really hate to wade into this stuff because it's something like politics and I doubt it ever changes anyone's mind.

The link/calculator above won't open for me but I suspect it's something like this: How American Is My Car? | BuiltHere.us

Beware of these "sources" that include total sales volume as a percentage of what is American. They are funded by dealer groups who want to reassure customers who have misgivings about buying a foreign car. By their supposed calculations, they label a Chrysler 200 as "less American" than something like a Hyundai Elantra. Well how can that be? A 200 has an engine made in either Dundee or Trenton, MI and the trans comes from Indiana. The body is stamped in Sterling Heights MI and assembled a mile north. They also give no weight to the highest value labor (by dollar amount) the engineering. They arrive at their calculation by including sales volume. Well no sh*t, I know Hyundai sells a lot of cars, that's the problem! But it props up their claim because they'll say it has more "economic effect" by however they've decided to measure it... likely how well it benefits their dealer.

They'll also exclude Canadian-made car and parts. Chrysler has forged metal in Canada since the 30s. Canada is a first world nation and we've been trading on an equal footing (no tariffs either way) since 1965. If you don't know this, Chrysler is NUMBER ONE in Canada. If more of this country acted like Canada in that respect, we'd be much better off.

Mexico is more complex by virtue of ridiculous policies that push down their wages and keep their (even more) corrupt politicians wealthy at the expense of their population. However, they have had no tariffs on US goods since '92, and consequently as a percentage, they buy more "American" than Americans.

This is a very complex issue with many moving parts including currency manipulation and what are termed "non economic" barriers to US automakers in foreign markets (e.g., income tax audits for Koreans who buy foreign cars... while Hyundai has yet to sell more than 1000 cars annually in Japan because of Japanese protectionism). Like I said very complex.

I've researched this quite a bit and am happy to provide data, but find it seldom does much good.

I married a woman who is 5'10" so I wouldn't have to move seats and mirrors.

There were other reasons, but it is nice not having to do that!

I'm buying whatever is cheap and has cheap parts, if I look at a car the first thing I do is go on rock auto and compare prices, brakes, rotors, etc. Learned my lesson with this f--kin trailblazer and all its inovations and Isuzu engine, the parts were expensive now warehouses are clearing out. Does not matter what you buy in the rust belt, in 10 years it will have rotted panels no matter what is emblazened on the grill or where it is made.

If you can't figuring out why supporting a foreign country's economy and technology isn't a good idea....I am not going to waste my time trying to explain it to you...regardless of what the media here promotes.

If someone visits me and they are driving something foreign I make them move it out of my driveway and park down the street.

Just for the record I use a Blackberry for the same reason.

I am just surprised that anyone that would join up to a C-Body board would have any interest in a foreign car....its an oxymoron...I just don't see what the two would have in common.

Dave
