My brother inlaw is in the Fayetteville, NC area. They were first told that everything was OK and to stay at home. They are on high ground. That changed early evening last night when two dams broke near them and they were told to evacuate. There's no room at the shelters and all the hotels are full. With the flooding, they can't just drive out of it. They were also told they couldn't take their dog.
So far, we haven't heard where they landed. His wife is a RN at the VA hospital there, but was home at the time.
I'm not going to be surprised if they move back up north. His twin brother lives near us and they haven't stayed apart this long ever... This may drive him back up here.
We were in Virginia Beach until yesterday morning. The skies looked a little dark when we left, but that was it. The plan was to drive to Pennsylvania and spend the night in a hotel so we could visit my wife's mother today. There wasn't a hotel to be found anywhere.... Everything from Scranton south was booked and we found out that it was a lot of southern residents that were escaping the hurricane. We ended up driving home.
