Selling a car to someone in Europe

Bank transfer from his bank to your bank. Wait the required time that your bank needs for the transfer to clear.
Tell him come get it.

2x. What could possibly go wrong with that?

When I bought my former car from WA, I e-mailed the vendor, then called him to verify that I was earnest, and transferred him the money to his bank right away. Took him a while to sort out the papers, but otherwise there were no problems. Then I arranged (via e-mail) for the shipping company to go pick it up. They went, loaded the car to a trailer, and away it went, to Galveston TX, and forwarded it to a container shipping company. Second time around I had a compatriot over there to do the deal for me in person. Sent him the money, he paid cash, and arranged the container shipping. Not a single problem there, either.

All went smoothly, but the AUS transfer hit me for an extra $50 in fees. Buyer claims it was on my end, of course my bank differs.
Yes, I was hit with that fee also.
Next time I sell a car on ebay, I'll simply add:
"Buyer responsible for all transaction fees".

I am not familiar with banking procedures in the U.S. especially concerning checks.

But I would assume that when a bank transfer is done and the money is in your account, it stays there unless you do anything with it. So the risk is on the buyer: He has to wait until he receives note from you (or his bank) that the money ended up in your account. Until you receive the money in your account you wouldn't release the car to the trucking company that will eventually come pick it up.
That's what I'm thinking. I'm going to stop by tomorrow & check with them

Keep in mind the buyer is the one taking all the risks.

I do wire transfer and paypal. I do not like paypal as a buyer because the exchange rate is very bad. But it helps to secure a deal for downpayment in example.

In the old days a cashier check was often done by truckers but they charge a lot of money nowadays for doing that (not the trucker itself but the shipping company).
Shipping companys do not like it anymore either.

A wire transfer is the safest for everyone. If the money is in your account nothing could go worng.

Title has to stay with the car as it is needed in the port for export. Shipping company will let you know if it should be given to the trucker or sent to them directly

Ok good info guys. I'll go by my bank today & talk with them. Next question. I just put a new set of seats in the car yet the buyer wants the original seats included so I told him I would put them inside the car. So I need to take the front bench apart so it will fit in the car. Exactly how does the back come off from the bottom section

bob , they are action as the purchasers agent . cash is not out of the question . thats why , and you need to get a release of liability from the purchaser or he's agent of purchase . thats the guy that picks it up for him . just my thoughts . i hope it works out .

bob , there is a speed clip washer that holds the seat back on a h/t , a sed should have bolts on the outer sides , then the hook on the cender is a bit of a wiggling off with a twist , shak'n not stirr'd , lol .

yes , to hold the center lower of the seat backs , okay waving pin . its not straight , it curves to keep the seat from siding off to the door .

Well i talked with my bank. The lady there didn't like it. She said it would be best if I opened a new separate account for this & then close it & transfer the money as soon as it was in the account. Transfer it to my regular account. She said I would have to give the seller my account #. So that's why the new (temporary) account. I did confirm with buyer he's taking care of all fees. So I'm a bit nervous about the account # thing.

It's on it's way to Holland. Shipper finally came & picked up the car today.

But then I gotta give banking numbers, dont I?
Its safe. All they have is your sort code and account number. The same info you give out whenever you give someone a personal check.
Ever write a check to some Joe Blow handyman?
If even that makes you paranoid, you can open a temporary account that you close after the transaction.
