Selling a car to someone in Europe

There is also another funds transfer (Australian based) business named OFX OFX | International Money Transfers & Currency Exchange

The concept is the Euro amount is paid into OFX's European account and the US dollar amount paid from OFX's American account.

Have never used them but as Stan says, these arrangements are safe or they wouldn't exist.

I feel more safe with giving someone a check around the corner, than giving them routing and account numbers around the world. . . . . Not a chance.

Perhaps I am a bit more suspect of people. I had no trouble accepting cash from the transporter and handing him the title and keys

That's what I did. I opened a savings account with a bank I don't normally deal with. Gave the guy that #. His bank wires funds to a clearing house in my case that was a place in California. Then it's sent to my bank. I gave him my acct # & banks home office address. The clearing house address. Took 24 hours to clear. Buyer is taking a lot of risk as well. I kept him up to date. As transport company called 3 times.

Dude! Where ya been?

Hibernating.....
But then I gotta give banking numbers, dont I?
Same numbers that are printed on your checks that you hand to people.

Yeah, we know, Stan said that. My checks go in the mail, besides that? Not really. Like I said, If I needed something with a check I know where to find the guy . Hell, Im suspect of Paypal

Well i talked with my bank. The lady there didn't like it. She said it would be best if I opened a new separate account for this & then close it & transfer the money as soon as it was in the account. Transfer it to my regular account. She said I would have to give the seller my account #. So that's why the new (temporary) account. I did confirm with buyer he's taking care of all fees. So I'm a bit nervous about the account # thing.

That,s the way to do it , payed the last 5 cars from my account to (new) accounts with no money on it,,,,,,,,save for both.
A few sellers didn,t open a new account and give me there normal account number.
I would never pay with a cheque when the seller is asking for that , he can keep the car!!

Yes you would of course have to. But what would the buyer (or any third party) be able to do with your account number - other than transfer money onto that account? I don't see any risk there.

A little thing called hacking. That's why the company Life Lock was created.

I don't say identity theft is impossible. But it's a little like not giving out your telephone number because someone having it might take over your account with the telephone service provider.

Well I'm no expert on these matters. I have a couple of friends that regularly sell cars via wire, but both of them have only sold to US people. So I went & talked with my banker & I did what she said
