Why do people have to drive like idiots on Friday?

holy crap TT. glad you are ok.

I so hate our highways around here. It's an idiot a second all day, everyday.

I am a firm believer in making all new drivers take a mechanical course to get their licence like they do in Europe. Then they might get the point of what an automobile can, and cannot do.

Unfortunately if he breathes mouth or nose he would pass. Believe me I would love to see the test get extremely hard. Less dummies means this one would get paid more.
Trump is putting all the expedited work visas on hold.
That will give the big national carriers (Swift, Werner, USA Truck, etc.) a kick in the balls with their importing recruits.

a good start would be banning ALL cell phone usage in a car while driving. AND ENFORCE IT! F'n idiots buried in their damn phone instead of driving the damn car.

What pisses me off is the technology exists. All new cars should come standard with a way to make a cell phone completely useless while the vehicle is in MOTION. Old cars would have to be retrofitted at time of inspection/registration renewal with authorized proof by an installer. Can't stand a-holes on the phone while driving.

you meant to say assholes right?

Agreed. Now remember that when I now have to say, we are getting killed by intrusive mandated government regulation.
Two edged sword.
Before you start an argument, remember I agreed with you.

I also agree, but I would have an override that would allow 911 / 999 calls in an emergency.

I'm going to hijack this thread just a little... I like to drive the parts car on Fridays whenever I can. I am much happier than in my DD and I drive calmer. I will admit, I can get too aggressive at times.

Thursday evening driving the DD home after the big rush... I was gifted a relatively light traffic road for a change. Secondary, 4 lane divided roadway... the traffic signals seemed to be in my favor... wonderful... Until I came up on the moron who decided to spend the next few miles matching speed with the right lane car. Literally the light traffic had just a few cars, but this one couldn't be bothered to do anything but play "rolling roadblock". IDK if they were texting, unconscious or just an ahole... but I had another car stuck between them and me, and no clear way around the idiot.

We came to some gentle S turns where traffic tends to slow up a bit. The car between us had the chance to go right, and then slowed... I had a window. I signaled, took the right and started to pass. This seemed to "wake up" the unconscious ahole, who decided it was time to "defend his lane".... I suppose I have watched too much NASCAR... and I'm not really proud of myself for it... but I was coming up on a slower moving truck so I sped up and took the lane (50/50 chance the OP would have just decide to box me in with the truck if I didn't around here).

They leaned on the horn and now decided it was time to get really stupid aggressive. There are 5 lights inside of a mile of roadway, we made it through 3 of them without a full stop... this guy darting back and forth, blinking his lights and sounding his horn. I have never pulled over or gotten out of the car to escalate a road rage incident (best case...assault and battery, and yes that would prosecute here), and I did actually feel a little bad that I opted to not just sit behind this moron any longer.

With all of their antics trying to get to a position where they could confront me or throw things or cut me off and brake check... IDK maybe even shoot at me... the traffic behind was giving that car some room. The traffic really picks up in that spot as the tributary roads bring on much more traffic and I didn't have to do anything heroic, just try not to get caught at a dead stop for too long.

So as I am easing to a stop at the 4th light, they dart from behind me and are trying to get along side... CRUNCH. The silly idiot hit a stopped car in that lane. The light changed and we continued in traffic. I didn't stop as they fell behind me to see if the idiot stopped to give insurance info, but both cars turned off somewhere and were gone from my ability to track them as we got into more congested traffic.

Like I said, I felt a little bad for giving in to desire to get around that idiot... but I just couldn't stop chuckling the rest of my ride home and thinking they really needed to learn to focus on more than one thing at a time while driving.

Friday, in the parts car... I had a much calmer trip. I may have seen the same car, not sure... but the hood/grille were punched in a little. I chuckled some more...

I've recently learned that people actually DO slow others down on purpose. If they don't like the speed someone doing they will pull into that lane to slow traffic:elmer:. That had to be a good feeling Jeff...a damn good feeling

I do try to keep my aggressive tendencies in check... not really proud... but I still chuckle when I think about it.

Hijack all you want old pal, we all have had a few instances of aggressive driving and for the most part have the experience of knowing when to be cool behind the wheel.

Most of the members don't know I started driving for Uber and was working at the time this happened, and now that the car is torn up, I can't use it until it is repaired, (this is a Chicago rule).

My main purpose besides venting was to help make others aware of the stupidity out there on the roads, it is getting down right dangerous now, and none of us want a date with the Grim Reaper. For us old timers, it takes way to long to heal after something like this, for the youngsters, take care of your body now, or you will pay like the rest of us when you get older.

Enforce it is the key. The woman that t-boned me was on her phone as she ran the red light. Never hit her brakes. The real kicker, more than the $14k in damages to my brand new 300, she had her two kids under five in her car. Airbags hanging all over, charge powder drifting out of her car, kids screamin and she admitted being her fault. Officers never mentioned her phone usage in their report.
I honk my horn now everytime i see someone looking at their phone in their lap when they should be watching the road. Excuuuuuuse me, i'm driving here!
