Here is the beginning thread of Bobs 66 300, if you remember Bob bought this from Boomer recently and now that the 72 Coronet wagon is gone I am now starting work on this car. First order of the day was to remove the gas tank and inspect. The gas that came out was dark brown and full of rust scale, not looking good and I would say the likely cause of why the car sometimes runs rough.

Gary I agree the sending unit is trash. However the tank doesn't look that bad. I mean maybe it's the pics. I've seen worse. I've also hear the stuff on the market that cleans them will eat through the metal. Is there something less damaging that's cheap & readily available that can clean it some to help determine if it needs replacing? I value your opinion though.

If you need a sending unit, let me know. I got one to download with gasket and I think a new ring? Good Luck

bob thats a nice one , plenty of my buys have had trup'ten tyn syrup and no flow fuel systems . bought a 64 300 k rag once from a guy that said he started it at least once a week , lol . ya right ! that rag stunk when it ran from tank to the carb , but it ran . and would bark the tire shifting into second . it sat for some twenty five plus years , before i got it run n and driven the next day after the tow truck dropped her off . but back to today . got that 440/727 setting in my d200 or should i say d2440727 , lol . set up and made brackets for the five hundred dollar radiator core , built it for phank n dodge . but it was a great fit in this 69 , just needed mounting brackets . and it will use stock radiator top/bttm hoses and wp / alt and duel pulley belts all stock type set up . getting the throttle and kick down on the carb on , weiand intake has some long runners , carb sets some 4'' higher than stock . everything gets raised up to it . not a high jacker . so the offer has been made for a sending unit . but i'll second that if that one doesn't come true . thinking the 67 type is the same or close . i had this 66 300 4dr ht for a while .

Thanks. Pretty cool truck. You stay about as busy as I it looks. Probably more.

I pulled the tank on my 73 here and it is in a bit better condition, but the rust is still ever present. As we discussed, we can look at options to fixing the CH300 tank. Tomorrow I will do a bit of scraping, and also see how much rust scale comes out, I already got a fair bit out of the tank, if there is a lot of scale I would say the remaining steel is probably too thin to do anything to. I will let you know tomorrow what I find.

Ok. I went on Spectra's web site & I didn't see a fuel tank for this car. Maybe Quanta will have one

Checking the tank in the 73 it looks identical to the CH300, only difference is the length, 1.5inches longer. Makes you wonder why they bothered?

well bob , its not as swiftly get done as i wish . but its got throttle linkage and trans kick down linkage as well , now . had to work over the trans kick down rod , very little room behind the drivers head , and that right there were the throttle linkage is mounted . the truck stuff has a rod and bell crank , no cable linkage . not until 72 on the trucks . dropped my camera so no pics until its fitted . but it basicly like orangy .
