Sounds like ALLOT of work to repair what he’s mentioned.. someone educate me please.. plus! Is it a New Yorker or a Newport?

I’ve had one break after going too fast over railroad tracks. It’s drivable but a bumpy ride, lol.

FWIW, I have a set of torsion bars out of the ‘73, if anyone here is seriously thinking of going for this one.

I' m not a rear guru enough to explain the numbers ....

Through the years of interest we had 8 3/4 " rears with different part numbers....

741, 742 and 489 . I'm certain someone can explain it better .

OK 489 (part of casting number) = larger pinion stem. I shuda known that mabbe I cudda talked up the price of my spare 'Chucks' when I sold them eons ago.

Books were expensive years ago, even thou I'm a numbers guy from picking my own parts from the parts dept, most of what stayed in my brain is of the John Deere variety.

Not much interest in the 741. The 742 and 489 are the two people look at. Even then only if they are Sure Grips

He states torsion bar broken? How does that happen without messing up allot under the front?
I had a torsion bar in a 63 Dodge break while just sitting in the driveway.

Pretty funny too.... My son was about 7 at the time and was standing next to it, talking to me. Big "snap" followed by the car falling down on one side. Scared the crap out of him. He looked at me and said "I didn't do it".

The one and only pic. Could be a decent driver.

"Up for sale is a 1970 Chrysler New Yorker. Equipped with a 383, 727 automatic, 8 3/4 "489" rear, power steering, power brakes, power windows, AC, aftermarket am/fm radio, and power top. 104k original miles. It runs off a bottle and goes into gear. Needs a total go through of all systems, needs the snapped drivers side torsion bar replaced (torsion bar crossmember is good), and the removable subframe under the floor pan area needs patching.

~Clear Title~
