I struggle to watch these auctions. I know they are very popular. Lot of beautifull cars. Because I couldn't find anything else on after dinner last night I reluctantly went to the B-J show. First one I've watched in a couple years. And sure enough there he was on the stage. Mike Joy. Mike is a knuckle head. He routinely make mistakes & Steve Magnate routinely & subtly corrects. An example. Last night a 70 ? Olds 442 came on the stage & Mike took off describing the car. Then he decide to tell us what 442 was for. All's good untill he said the last 442 was a 4 cylinder Calis. No problem as I believe that's the case. The Olds Calis Quad 4 if I remember correct. However Mike tried to explain the 442 Calis was 4 cylinder, 4 cams & then he stopped before telling us what the 2 stood for because he realized he didn't know. A few minutes later he came back on & said the 4 was for 4 valves not cams. Still didn't tell us what the 2 was for. I'm guessing it's still dual exhaust. Mike does this a lot. He has a 50/50 chance of being correct. Another time several years ago he called a Billboard Cuda a Broadcast Cuda. LOL he did honest. He's a GM guy & seems to know 68-69 396 Chevelles pretty good. That plus watching the endless 55 Chevys, 68-69 Camaro's & Chevelles. I just can't take it. After 10 or 12 Camaro's show me a Ranchero or 273 Dart. Anything. Anyway Rant over. Enjoy the auction. I guess I'll watch Mountian Monsters or something

Bob next year turn off the TV and come out here and see it live. Beautiful sunny mid 70's day. Lot's of cool cars and other attractions.

I have a dislike for Steve Magnate as well. Full of misinformation , B.S . or both. He just rolls along like he's Mr car guy, thats ok if you dont know, just dont pretend that you do.

I have to agree about your commentator assessments. Probably the 2 worst guys I have ever heard. I do enjoy hearing Chris Jacobs comment on Mopars.

What drives me crazy on these shows is that once the bidding stops on a lot of the cars, they keep the car out there longer than they should and the auctioneer keeps rambling on, in hopes another bid comes in and it doesn't. :BangHead:. I may be old fashioned but I just don't get impressed with the imports that come across the stage. Seeing more and more of them.:soapbox:

Mike Joy is a Nascar broadcaster stuck doing car auctions so I cut him some slack. FYI, Steve is a diehard MOPAR enthusiast and has owned some neat cars. Based on what I have seen for sales and what I saw for sales at the MECUM Kissimmee auction people are spending money and paying a lot of coin for the top notch cars.

I too can't stand every hotrod having an LT1 under the hood. Where has originality and being different gone?

I know enough about Steve, Bill. More than I care but over the years when I would watch the car auctions I couldn' t take it. He' s not as bright as he tries to be. Kinda like the announcers at E town

let's all give them scripts to read off of or cue cards

I hear you on Steve.

Personally, I think Mike and Steve are great compared to the crew that does the MECUM auctions. They are constantly correcting each other.

bob i never tune in on b/j's action , in fact i don't have cable a dish or any reception of any kind . just cool movies . so tv is just a waist of time anyway . and i watch what i enjoy or not at all . pets can be a rest of the day and the joy in your life , you guessed it . knowing me can you think of how many of them i've got in the house ? everyday poop pick up , feeding n watering them twice daily . among with petting , holding n rubbing there bellies and getting their tales n ears . its like having a bunch of small kids around , always got an eye on them .

I turned on a Mecum auction and wondered what they smoked before the broadcast. They were talking about a car that went through three or four cars before, hardly mentioned the car on the block. It took me long enough to follow those two, I had to grab another beer! Turning to an auction during the warmer months actually motivates me to go out and work on my car so I guess they have some use after all! I agree being there is a lot different than watching.

I've tried to watch the Mecum as well. To me it's like the B-J auctions are geared to a blue color or working class white color audience & Mecum just feels like it's geared towards a high roller lets flip cars crowd. With the exception of Magnate I get the feeling non of these guys have ever turned a wrench on a 318 car. One of the local auctions I was at a few years ago I went over to the food court. Sitting at a table eating a burger & this group comes over to the table next to me. 4 or 5 of them. 3 men 2 women. They started talking about the cars. 2 of the men had travel bags with them. They all had writing pads & had written notes about some of the cars. Lot # etc. They where from Flordia & apparently travel the auction circuit. One of them mentioned a car he bid on that didn't sell. I guess he was all in. Another guy offered to lend him $21 thousand cash right then. Was almost encouraging him to take the cash & go make a deal on the car. I guess they had cash in those travel bags they where carrying. I was trying not to be nosey but I couldn't help it. The guy was considering it. Then they started talking about a car they had seen in Flordia at a auction & talking about the guy who bought it there. Complaining that he brought it to Greensboro just to flip & make a quick buck.
