May need to sell our 71 300

Ok....it seems that I started a shitfest here about the 300. I want to apologize to everyone if they feel I may have misled the sale. When I posted the thread on Saturday “I may need to sell my Chrysler 71 300”, it is correct that I did not officially have it in or on any site as for sale. Things were moving quick that evening and on Sunday. I was making every effort to reply to many emails and I think I did. I was contacted by an individual from out of state that wanted to buy without any haggling also on Sunday. After the 2 individuals checked out the car, neither was ready to commit. So, knowing that I was leaving Monday morning for a Disaster Recovery test for my company for 2 days and then on to Florida for personal reasons as stated in the original post, I then contacted the out of state buyer and told him the car is yours. The transactions completed overnight. The wife finished up the deal while I was gone. I know that there was not much time or opportunity for some interested individuals and for that I’m sincerely sorry. Should I have the chance of meeting any of you at any of the shows or meets, remind me of this and the least I can do is buy you a beer.

I said I presumed it was a possible for sale opportunity and you kept saying I said "it is for sale". There is a difference and you rested your whole argument on why you felt John was not treated properly by the "seller" because a good "seller" would have responded to everyone like you would and given equal opportunity - and this with a very desirable car no less in a crunch situation (and Henry did respond to John, which you did not acknowldege - it wasn't "nada"). That is why I said this is not a usual sale numerous times and you disregarded the comment each time apparently and kept insisting that I said "it is a for sale" post and Henry was at fault for not getting back to everyone.

I saw it as a fishing expedition to see if the seller could solve a pressing problem by getting a good offer for a very nice car, and if so, he would likely let it go, especially if he could avoid getting stuck in a "for sale" listing that would eat up his time when he had a pressing problem to solve. And I backed up my interpretation with the example that 3 people showed up on Saturday to view the car (my point was how did they manage to convince Henry to respond to them and somehow John didn't get a fair shake?), so they must have assumed the same thing I did and pressed forward. And I also said I do wish that John had an opportunity to buy it, but that wasn't how things played out.

The only point I was trying to make is that because this wasn't a formal "for sale", guys that want a very desirable car will not be overly respectful and rather see it as an opportunity to be helpful and at the same time get what they want. And that is what happened. I only was trying to say that in these unusual circumstances, timidty doesn't win the day. And you can't expect that Henry could or would respond to every one of the numerous inquiries he received given his circumstances. But that apparently didn't set with you and you kept going for some reason?

We usually agree on matters, so maybe we were just talking past each other this time, so lets just let it go and move on.

Please don't apologize Henry, you did nothing wrong. You may have lost a few thousand but that's your prerogative.
 
I was just making fun of Dave's grammar fetish (which I share). Unless you mean my earlier post, the point of which was supposed to be I'd expect foreign buyers to be more serious just because of the extra effort involved vs. local Craigslist (and forum) schlebs.

Anyway, since this thread is completely derailed, I'd like to get a pet peeve off my chest...

"I drove my '76 Dodge Royal Monaco tonight." This sentence means I used a 42-year old car this evening.

"I drove my 76' Dodge Royal Monaco tonight." This implies that I drove a car that was 1/4 the length of a football field.

The apostrophe takes the place of whatever you are shortening. (In the case, the "19") However, if placed after a number, it means FEET, as in 12 inches.

There, how's that for off-topic?

This has happened to me more than once....

Sticker price: $100 or best offer

Me: I'll do $90

Them: I don't know... I really gotta get $100

Me: Change your sticker then. It says "or best offer"

I take the money out...

Them: Huh?

Me: You heard me... If you don't want anyone to make an offer, then you should have said the word "firm" or not said "or best..."

Them: I really need to get $100... but I guess I can come down to $95

Me: I'll do $90, take it or leave it.

Them: I really need to get $100...

I usually put the money back in my pocket now and start to put the part down...

Them: Well...OK... I guess I can take $90...
