New to me 78 NYB on its way but please Don't tell my wife

Spent all day taking apart the spare airbox I bought and testing some parts from it. Good for the other thread.... bad for this one.

Good news is that the amplifier that came with it was good. Heater core was toast. Evaporator looked good but I need to test it to see if it’s salvagable. Ditto on the servo.

I did get the replacement NOS gas cap on Friday so at least I was able to move the ball forward..... if only a tiny bit.

Here’s what $40 bucks will get you. But hey, it’s NOS and it’s purty!

You can see where the rubber gasket on the old one was beginning to fail.

Man.... I’ve got a lot of cleaning to do on this car. Cleaning and detailing will take a month once all the mechanical and electrical gremlins are sorted.

Javier, will you be pulling the front seats?
I saw where you did it and it seems like a great idea. But I won’t be pulling them out just back to get an extra 12” or so. I’ve done it before and they are heavy. And the leather is so nice I’d hate to mar it. If I have to pull one out, I’m thinking it will be the passenger side one.

Good advice. Thanks.

LOL... I'm not immune, nor above any of it... the smokin hot thread has been ignored as I found it took too much time away from the cars and the pics had devolved into what I'd have expected to see in an old issue of Hot VWs... or the swimsuit issue of Honda Tuning :realcrazy:

I also find too young to be a bit repulsive, I just feel too much like Chester the Molester searching for a panty line there... A nice MILF is always a fine sight... and better if she's bending over an old Mopar

I get what you are saying Jeff I got dragged to a Stag that ended up at a Strip joint. Spent the first hour thinking...”Does your father know what you do?”...thank God the beer started kicking in and I forgot all those silly thoughts....:)

Hi Javier, love this thread and the ATCII thread. It really looks like you've got a handle the atc, just a word of caution on the servo.
Ditto on the servo.

Don't get it out of "time". The PO on one of my cars had it all screwed up. Hours and hours of head banging trying to reset the darn thing. Very confusing as the drawings in the fsm don't really show a starting point relative to the motor, the vacuum disc and the blower speed control. I think I described it right.
If you could somehow test the drive motor with a vom I would do that

To get the servo out of sincronization you’d have to take it apart. The servo in the car now is working correctly. I'm a firm believer in “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” !

But... having taken others apart, I can see where you could easily foul it all up so that it doesn’t work the way it should.

If the servo in the junk one I bought is bad.... you can bet I will take that sucker apart!

I just realized that I’ve spent 5 hours messing around on this site posting the efforts of another couple of hours. Good thing my wife is busy taking her online classes or I’d be dead!

The online classes... Accounting?

Nope.... she’s a special ed teacher. She’s going for her masters.

In other words.... she’s getting a masters in dealing with people like me!

I’m dyslexic, totally ADD and just plain strange. But my folks lovingly beat it out of me.

“Stand up straight! Look people in the eye when you’re talking to them boy!”... “please Miss, can you sit him up front ... he’s gets distracted.” “He’s a clever sob but damn it if he can’t just buckle down and do his work”

With a lot of help and work I learned to behave and become effective.

But I had a lot of help from people like her and my folks.

One of my girls is my clone. The other is just your ordinary garden variety plain genius.

ADD is practically a requirement to be a regular poster around here... those who want to focus and stay on topic seem to get frustrated and... look a squirrel!

Attention Deficit Disorder = I don't pay attention to the crap I don't car about. Everyone has some extent of that behavior, just as we all have some amount of OCD. Now back to, what were we talking about?

Good news came in today.... the evaporator arrived!

Bad news is no news at all about heater core. Vendor not responding. Delivery is supposed to be tomorrow per original estimate. We’ll see....

What’s the “Y” on the outer hood stamping all about?

image.jpg

Good news: the negative front cable came in. I had to add in a ground wire for the chassis but it came together well. Cut off the shrink wrap pushed a small nail to make a gap in the wire and soldered a 10ga. wire in and put a loop connector at the end with new shrink wrap tubing. No pictures of process... sorry but i think you know how it goes.

The "Y" is for Imperial. 74-75 Imperial was carried over for 76-78 New Yorker's. The 74-75 NY'ers and 76-78 Newport's have a "C" stamped on the hood. And if you look on the bottom side of trunk by the package tray it will have a "Y" there too.

That’s what I thought... thanks.

BTW, the 76-78 NY'ers hoods and headers are different than the 76-78 Newport's. The crease in the center of the hood is higher on the NY'er. And the header too. They will interchange but they won't line up right height wise. If you had a NY'er and a Newport parked side by side you'll see the difference immediately.

The 76-78 Ny'ers and the 74-75 Imperial's are pretty much the same except for the hood ornament configuration trim.

74-75 Formal's hoods are the same as the 76-78 Newport's.
