Took a drive up to Santa Barbara over the forth. Everything went great but while driving in traffic for over an hour I noticed the little spot on the speedo glass seems to be growing. I never measured it but I swear it's getting bigger. Never got oil or etc on the glass. Maybe some over spray of pledge while cleaning the steering wheel. I try to only use keyboard canned air and damp cloth on gauge glass. Let me know what you guys think.

I've seen plastic "fracture" with age from sunlight exposure and or heat. My guess is that's what is happening to yours. Also heard some cleaners with thigh alcohol content can cause that. Windex hazed one of my helmet shields......

So will did it eventually grow and ruin the whole shield or was it an all at once deal. This is moving at a glaciers pace.

It will seem to get bigger now that you've noticed it! All your attention will be on that now...just don't look!!.....lol

In reality, it may take a loooong time to spread. Limiting sunlight exposure would help I'm sure....

10-4. The sun does zap it where it sits in my driveway. I'll jam a towel in there to block it. Top is down 99% of the time. Thanks man.

My ‘72 Imperial, from Arizona and then Florida had the same thing when I bought it, but it was much worse. I replaced the lens. Never seen it before or since, until now.

Ok I'm just filing this under weird stuff that happens sometimes. I'll pick one up in Oct at the Fall Fling I've seen em there for sale cheep enough. Guess I'm lucky as it only covers 100mph and above. Thanks all.

that same thing happened on my 68 newport, my only fix was with another gauge cluster lens

My 72 Newport has the exact same thing on all of the instrument panel clear plastic. It disappears during warm weather, and comes back when it gets cold.

Well I sure hope it starts disappearing soon. It was 118 here the other day LOL !!!

Sorry to resurrect this but it is actually the same type of degradation that tires get with age (essentially dry rot). Plastic and rubber are both affected by oxygen and over time they break down and become brittle because they are basically drying out beyond their flexibility lifespan. You could make a new lens before it gets too brittle and carefully store the original (if you cared to keep it). They can probably be formed from a clear polycarbonate sheet or cast from resin if it is more detailed than forming from a sheet would allow.

I think there might be a good one lying in a certain Indiana Jones type trap at the yard. I'll just swap lenses if it's not smashed.
