This is my feeling on project build threads. I am a member of several other forums and it’s really important to understand the politics and really the climate of online automotive threads.
We are all very different. Different ages, different backgrounds, different locations with varying cultures, and a big one especially is different financially. Some guys have the time and money to really perform high level modifications to their cars, and we all wish we had that ability. It’s important to know that anything put online, especially if you are changing a car that was originally the same as the other peoples cars here, is going to be heavily criticized and critiqued.
I would never suggest anyone who had a hard time with constructive criticism or negative feedback ever actively participate in a car mod type thread. We are mostly responsible adults, but trolls do exist, and I myself even will heavily critique something posted that is modified or changed. We all have c bodies, so we all have passion for c bodies, which inflicts emotion, and that emotion is going to show up.
The reason I’m writing all this out is simply because I want your guys honest critical feedback. I have ZERO c body experience and this is only my second Mopar. I wouldn’t post this stuff unless I was capable of handling you guys getting out your pitchforks and educating me.
I have actually already had improvements on the car that never would’ve happened because of feedback here.
I’m going to utilize all the info you guys put here, and without doing something I seriously do not want, any and all criticisms are appreciated.
So please.... feel free to keep me on the right path. The cars next home I’m sure will appreciate it. I really want a duster in the future, or maybe another 66 charger, so I plan to put this car to good use while building it up, then sending it to a good home.

This is for Chad... but I'll expand on that. As you age it tends to happen that you start to appreciate comfort more than "hotrods"... a C Body fits into that crowd very nicely... bigger and heavier but also very nice ride and highway manners. Things like your tires do actually take away from that.

Many of us have outgrown burnouts... we still have a few who need them... but most of us value comfort and reliability over dyno numbers and wasted rubber. There are some strip cars in here, and we do love them... but the owners know what they have done to the car and don't fool themselves that they have "cruisers", I don't think any of those started a clean, stock car either.

Your car with the bugs worked out will be a joy to drive... she's built for the highway and is better than the competition of her day handling wise... but whatever fool would slalom a 71 full size chevy or ford wouldn't believe how much better your car is in stock form. Unfortunately, deviations from stock suspension shows up immediately in ride quality.

If you make yours correct and enjoy her a while... an A body or a B body just won't be the same for you. You may still love them, but you'll miss the C Body ride. Several of our members have owned amazing cars, and love their C Bodies mostly stock.

Oh you're right about that... but, I was more about not missing the true experience by not having her right. I had a 73 Charger once with deep offset back wheels when I purchased her... She was an entirely different car once stock ride height and proper wheels and tires went on her. I actually "fixed" a lot of old cars with a proper set of tires... I'd hate to see Chad miss what he has now.
 
Oh, I don't know, he seems to be pretty cool with the feedback - and criticism - he is receiving. I think he is just finding the balance between what works for him and what needs to be changed/upgraded, while still preserving the essence of his car. I understand that. For instance, I am trying to keep my Fury as stock as possible but I would never - never - go back to bias ply tires - for ride and safety reasons. I view tires much the same as I do brake pads - they naturally wear out and need to be replaced over the life of a car. Replacing the brake pads doesn't lessen the stock or original status of a car, it is seen as normal and natural usage. The same is true for tires. They wear out, they need to be replaced, and it would only be natural that an owner would keep up with the times when replacing their tires with ones that reflect the latest technology. Others might think otherwise. That's their prerogative. Again, jmho.

You guys are my kind of people! I have covered a lot the reasoning behind the wheel purchase. Regardless if they stayed on this car or not, I needed replacements to be able to drive the car, and the setup and great deal in my eyes seemed to be lots and lots of value for the money. The juice was worth the squeeze. I could trade these wheels, sell them for a profit, and have extra cash to get something that was better for the car overall. These wheels fixed the immediate issue, as well as opened up more options for other wheel and tire packages down the road. Plus it was a good lesson for me, which is probably most important. The exhaust was needed, and a subtle dual setup doesn’t take away from any originality of the car IMO. Single exhaust systems aren’t bad, but there isn’t anything (except maybe a Cadillac or Lincoln) that a mild dual system will hurt, except for exit location, gaudy tips, or obnoxious mufflers. Aside from that I really have just been focused on the reliability, items that don’t function needing repair, and cleanup of the car. The color on the motor was a mistake. Oreillys claimed to have ordered Chrysler blue engine paint, and by the time I had my first color coat on and noticed it was off, I was in full tilt to get car back together and back on the road. It’d be easy enough to pull valve covers and paint timing cover on the car the real Chrysler blue.
I’m not sure what the Chev engine dress up is, but if you’re referring to the 4 bbl setup I have ready to go on, then I can explain at least my POV behind it.
After driving the car the first few days, I really was beginning to enjoy it. IMO I feel like it was about 80% of the power and torque I think the car really needs to be as enjoyable as possible. I have lots of experience with cars, driving, racing, and road tripping. I’m not looking for a hot rod, but there’s a level of acceleration that really delivers a pleasure experience. The sound of the exhaust, the rumble of the OHV V8, and a level of acceleration on kickdown and on ramps that needs to be on tap when spirited driving is asked of the car. I felt another 20% power increase would put the car there. I like the highway gear, so I wasn’t going to mess with that. I want to keep the factory a/c (minus an R134 conversion), so that needed to stay on. Obviously bumping the power was the most suitable course. Not only will it pick up some low end power and torque, but the top end can be more tunable and increased as well. This’ll help acceleration, the exhaust will definitely sound better with added power, and the sound of the secondaries at full trot is quite a good sound/ feeling as well. I will keep the factory mani/ carb with the car, and any future owner can easily return the car to stock form.
Lastly I had the carb laying around, and the manifold was only $70. For that kind of low investment it wasn’t hard for me to move forward with the 4 bbl swap.

Again I love the input. 2 weeks ago this car didn’t run. Sat since 1988. I’ve been thrashing on this thing to bring it back to life. At every turn I’ve learned a lot. Made some mistakes. One thing that’s awesome though is I get to be driving and enjoying the car everyday.
I wouldn’t be worried for the next owner. I wouldn’t be worried for the car. I’ll make sure the car goes to a proper owner who will continue these ideas you guys are helping instill in me as we go. The original equipment will all stay with the car. I am not planning on just selling the car ASAP. I’m going to drive it and continue to fix it as I go. If someone comes along that appreciates the car and wants to buy it, I’ll sell. At this point though if the car was alive or had a soul, it would be very happy to be in its current state, especially after sitting not running and being neglected for 29 years. Actually! I have some interior pics I finally cleaned her out and cleaned her up.

amazing the carpet, headliner, dash, and seats on this car. Such good condition. Still needs real proper detail, but not full of junk anymore either way

That interior is excellent... funny how much I like it now, but would have not wanted it 30 years ago. You have a very nice car...
What’s it all about anyway...
But fix that exhaust leak soon... I'm a little surprised the exhaust shop didn't want to take care of it...

Actually, I did much the same as you - when I first got my Fury, the owner before had tried to make a low rider out of it and had stuck some tiny/skinny little tires on it with some funky wire wheels. I couldn't get them off fast enough. I got some chrome wheels with some decent tires on them to get me by (you can seem them in my Avatar picture). I always meant them to be temporary but ended up driving on them until the tires literally rotted away - about 11-12 years. But then I was in a position where I could get what I wanted, so got some Magnum 500s that were true to what was OEM at the time the car was new. :)

You bet. I am enjoying. I’ve never gotten more attention in any other car. Other muscle cars, the 911, the big turbo 800whp BMW, viper, etc. people really really love this car.
I don't do "cool". I do "appropriate". The differences between the two are lost on most people.
Very very well said. Appropriate is also a matter of opinion though. I think it’s important that whicher thread we are in, the OP values the opinions of the people who have the best intentions.

Exhaust leak is number one repair, along with gas gauge. Also I decided to lower the car 3” inches for Polara71....

What thermostat.... just rock a chrome housing and you’ll be cool AF....
