I wasn't exactly looking for another car, but this one popped up locally and I had a line on some garage space opening up as well. I went to check it out and it came home with me.

It's a 400 2 barrel, manual A/C, straight, pretty much no rust, new fuel system from tank to carb, new radiator, and an original interior in above average shape. I think the vinyl top is original, but the car has had a mediocre repaint at some point in it's life. Shows 96,000 miles on the odometer and I'm inclined to believe that is correct. Door latches all around were a bit sticky but a tiny bit of Deep Creep cleared that right up.

Needs a battery tie down, transmission cooling line patch, transmission pan gasket, probably shocks, a few repairs to the front seat, and to figure out why the passenger windshield wiper doesn't go.

I've had a blast driving it around over the past week and am looking forward to even more cruising once I get the little stuff taken care of.

Some trunk rust in the trunk.

Much better with one application of Metal Rescue gel left overnight.

Very nice find. That is generation of Fury you do not see a lot of. Great looking car.

Nice find! I always did like the front end styling on those particular Plymouths. That "rust" you found in the trunk floor is the result of moisture trapped (from years of temp swings) by the rubber trunk mat. Put a piece of carpet back there, like the Chryslers would have come with.

I have the vinyl mat in the garage to use as a template to mark and cut the carpet.

Hm, a Fury III sedan with hood ornament and wind splitter. What's the VIN (and fender tag, and door sticker) on this car?

That is one big car for sure, I think later model formal Plymouths were a bit smaller? Still, that is one of the nicest formals around. Congratulations.

First 7 of the VIN are PH41M4F

P-Plymouth
H-Price class H
41-4 Door Sedan
M-400 2 barrel
4-1974 Manufacture year
F-Newark assembly plant

I don't have the fender tag handy, door sticker didn't come with the car, and I haven't ween spelunking for a build sheet. I may be by the garage tonight to grab the fender tag. That said, I don't have anything to decode the fender tag with as that doesn't seem to be in the FSM.

1975-1978 Fury went to a B body and only the Gran Fury stayed as the full size C body.

The F in PH41M4F already gives it away as a car built between August and December, 1973.

I, or somebody else on this forum, can handle most codes on Fury fender tags, so don't worry about that.

Here's a couple shots of the interior. Everything not pictured looks close to new. I'm hoping I can patch up these problem spots on the seats and get that driver seatbelt retractor fixed.

Here is the fender tag as best as I can read it.

I had a Newport with vinyl bolsters and cloth inserts (plaid actually). Same type of splits. I had an upholstery shop install a slightly wider vinyl bolster and no one was the wiser. Cost was pretty cheap as well.

Very cool. Looks like a nice cruiser. I don’t know how many will agree, but I like the sedans better than the hard tops. Nice find.

Line 4:

Judging by the SPD, your Build Sequence Number probably starts with 14, because I know a Dodge Monaco Brougham, VIN DP43M4F148094, with SPD B21. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
The upper door frame color codes are not documented (at least, I didn't find such documentation). KG7 would be some medium green. Hardtops have 000 here, as they don't have upper door frames.
Newark fender tags, as opposed to Belvidere tags, omit G11 = Tinted Glass, All in combination with H51. Your car should have tinted glass.
L31 and L81 are two options that were only available in the Light Package option group. Your car should have this package.

And on a general note, V5X = Body Side Molding; Black Insert was standard on Fury III's. Yet their fender tag mentions it, as if it were an option. On the other hand, no single 1974 Fury or Dodge fender tag I know of has a radio code, although most of them came with a radio. 1974 Chrysler and Imperial fender tags do have radio codes.
