I will start this thread with the build for my 72 2 Door Fury III. I have had Paul Roberts at Gray's Machine in McMinnville, OR build this for me. This is a stealth build, so when it is in the car, it will not shout out at you that it is different than stock! Paul has the engine built, waiting on the Manifild. Who would think that there is a shortage of 440 manifolds.

 When you get for a drive, tell what was the Mustang driver´s face like after you leaned on the gas at lights.

Just looking at the long block, nice attention to detail.
Going to be hard to keep it stealth and feed it at the same time.
Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Looks nice.

From my experiences, it's very easy to bait a "true Mustang driver". Just leave a bit earlier on the light, get ahead of them, then listen for their rpm to build quickly as they blast by, seeming to maintain their superiority. Even when a cop might be hiding nearby. LOL

As slow as my '80 Newport 360 was off the line, if I was paying attention to the green light, and they weren't, or suspected I was not a worthy challenge . . . as soon as the light turned green, I left and was ahead of them, THEY noticed and responded as suspected. Roar of rpms as I was then at legal cruising speed and they weren't in front of my car. Such great fun in the "Days of Five-Oh"!

And then there were the Flowmastered Mustang drivers who would come looking for a challenge, when I was driving my '77 Camaro on the freeway. They'd approach, blip the throttle in gear, as if to taunt me . . . but I ignored them and they drove on.

Even shadowing them on the freeway can be fun, even if it's two lanes over. Matching their small speed increases as THEY noticed me. That guy got really mad when he couldn't run away from the Camaro when traffic cleared on the interstate. He called the race off at 110mph. His was a NEW GT, paper plate and all. Against my 235K mile 305, stock exhaust, Z/28 cat-back. Just a 210 degree @ .050 cam upgrade with a 4160 OEM Holley and Z-Line Holley intake. Only time I ever did that, but it was fun for what it was. I smiled. He didn't.

Enjoy Responsibly,
CBODY67

Looks great. Can you tell us your basic setup? I am looking to do this sort of thing with my 69 Fury.

What will the compression ratio be? Something like 10.x:1 or even higher?

That's the nice thing about displacement, you can make unibody twisting torque with an 87 regular compression ratio. 505 cubes can make 500+ horsepower and 600+ ft/lbs falling out of a tree with 9:1.

Kevin

My plan exactly. I want better pickup from a stop and keep my 3.23 highway gears. High vacuum ,smooth idle, and gobs of torque that doesn't need race gas.

Yes, but then it is not a stealthy engine! Okay, it is .040 over, so a little larger than 505, Trick Flow 240 heads, roller cam, but not a thumper, I can get the specs. It will have Performer RPM intake, Performers are 2 months out, and EFI. Just a good all around big block.

I would like mine to be stock looking and use the HP exhaust manifolds on 440 source heads which look stock when painted. I would be interested in what crank , piston setup and very interested in what roller cam you went with.

With my mathematically underpowered brain, I get over 511 out of that, because a 440 with bore .030 over stock is a 446.

Yes sir, that is a Hughes Engines custom valley plate.
Thanks for gettin' back Moseman. What size valvez are you gonna run? Goin' all the way to .188s and .214s or? lol. When I did the 440 for the Batwagon I used the valley pan from an engine with Indy Headz for inspiration. Took one of those Indy head valley panz and ah 24"X12"X 1/2" chunk of Aluminum to a machinist Buddy and showed him a 440 W/906 hangin' on the pins and to call me when it'z done. Loved it too, Jer
