GARLAND TEXAS BABY !!!
well, here it goes. If I can live to see the day when this car is finished, and this page has pictures of a finished car on it..it will be freaking killer as hell. I hope I get there. I bought this Plymouth fury III in march 2013, in dallas texas. VIN# PX23G8D243539. I was told I'm the 3rd owner, and it is supposed to be a texas car. It's all there , and supposed to be all original. I looked at the fender tag, motor, and transmission numbers, and they are all from late Feb 1968, and the car was born Mar 6 1968 (if I remember the decoded info correctly), all within a week of each other. It is labeled as white, black top, red interior, 2 door fast top. It has a 383 2bbl and a 727 trans 3 speed auto on the column.:sFl_america2: 1968furyIII600x600.jpg I'm starting this post today, instead of being out driving this American made steel yacht because I was in the engine compartment wiping everything down, and the oil sending unit line broke off flush when I bumped it.. spent some time fixing that and started up, checked oil pressure gauge - GOOD.. put it into D and the idle doesn't kick down...hrum... I give it gas and roll a bit,, tap the brake, and almost faceplant the dashboard because the brakes locked. I think I broke some dry rotted vacuum line somewhere or something like that... So the wife says I cant drive it anymore until I restore it.

thanks that's good lookin out. can anyone please explain how the gas pedal is attached to the floor? do I have to peel back the rubber boot at the bottom to get to screws or something? I was trying to pull the carpet, and I see no allowance to slip the pedal thru the carpet,, its flush... how does it undo?

If it's like my 65 300, then you will have to undo two nuts on the underside of the floor pan (7/16" if I recall). There are two studs on the bottom of the pedal that go through the carpet and floor.

that's probably it...thanks for the tip

Did you look to see if the vin was stamped on your engine and trans? Sounds like they're likely original by the dates but the vin should be stamped on a '68. It will be by the oil pressure sending unit adjacent to the trans mating surface and the stamp on the trans will be adjacent to that.

And the nuts are usually frozen with rust so they snap the studs. Soak it and resoak it with penetrant for a couple of days first.

:eek:ops: Never though about that. My dry west coast car didn't have that problem.

nope I didn't even know there are more numbers there :) this is my first mopar to work on so I have no clue . . . ill try to get to those to verify next!

Not all '68s were stamped but I have two that are and have seen many others. They'll be in a difficult place to see and probably under a layer of grime.

Soooo...... im working under the car up to my armpit trying to reach the 7/16 that holds the gas pedal thru the driver side floorpan . . . . .I see something move out of the corner of my eye.....

still working on the old girl.... the whole interior is out and i went thru the dash wiring and gauges too... taping up wires, cleaning up everything, etc... 45 years of dirt and dead bugs and broken dash light bulbs and everything else up in the dash and inside the door frames, etc..

changed the transmission kickdown, pan, shifter seal. Drop the valve body to get to the kickdown seal - WAY easier and worth the time to undo the valve body than to try to fish the kickdown seal out with a hook or other rig. Counter sinking the new seal in was easy with the valve body out of the way. ive got pictures of the 'press' i made to press in the seal, ill get the pic online soon. Trying to do the work and keep the transmission in the car... we'll see how it goes.

fixed all the windows - they all roll down now :) - BONUS - they all roll back up too!
Got ECI front brake disc conversion on order and it is on the way from CT...
new front shocks installed. KYB were special order from here and monroe was the OEM fit it seems - so went with monroe gas fronts.
front sway bar is off and new bushings are ready to go on ( moog k7061 )
rear shocks soon...
going to go with aftermarket gauges - too much time/money to rebuild the originals right now...
wheels + tires after the brake conversion...

ECI brake kit is supposed to be here tomorrow!
got rear shocks to go in also...
big weekend coming up - does it REALLY have to be mothers day weekend? damn the luck.

Take her to the 9:00 AM seating of the Mothers Day Brunch. That will leave you the rest of the day.
