So the problem is that the relay mentioned on the headline makes a clicking sound when the engine is not running, but the ignition key is turned to "on" and obviously the battery cables are attached.

The clicking is caused by an electric magnet inside the relay that turns the circuit off and on. It is not audible when the headlights are turned on or either half of the power seat is moved and the sound transforms to continuous ticking after turning the headlights off.

Our guess is that the relay is being fed too much current from somewhere, but at least it can´t be a short because all lights are operable as they are supposed to.

The vehicle in question is the 73 Imperial LeBaron and yes, the FSM has been read more than a few times with no significant solution.

Thank you for any help.

If it's like my 79 New Yorker, the limiter switch on the motor isn't turning off when the door hits the closed position and what you are hearing is the breaker tripping because the motor is still trying to turn.

I never did get around to fixing mine, I just unplugged mine in the open position and left it there unless I was at a show and then I unplugged it closed.

Yup had to change my motor to get mine to stop resetting the breaker. PITA but works fine now.

Is there no limit switch to turn things off when it's tripped and the cover is where it needs to be? Just curious.

The '67 Camaro RS cars had a limit-travel switch for "open" and "closed" on their electric headlight cover system. '68 and '69 went to a full vacuum system.

Littlefuse limit switch with a long, thin paddle on one side. 4 of them per car.

Just some thoughts,

Yes, it is on top of the motor and the single torsion bar connecting the headlight covers and the power source does pierce it instead of the motor.
