What Do You Like/Or Dislike About Carlisle?

I think it should be extended by 5/6 days. I arrive on Tuesday before and head out The following Monday wondering what I might have missed. Just not enough time to have a good visit with some folks.
Don't care much for the burnout silliness, or the Daisy Duke contest, that gets scary sometimes.
Heat.....? Bring it on.....!

I would keep the Daisy Duke contest.....

I'd love to go, but know it will be a last-minute decision. If it's pouring or sweltering, it's just not happening for me, but last-minute means I'm sleeping in the car, which means I'd be going by myself.
Reserve a room and cancel if you have to. Never had an issue canceling a room anywhere and I used to travel a lot for work.

Good idea! We don't travel often, and when we do, it's usually staying with family.

The closer you get to Harrisburg, the easier it is to get a hotel room and there's more places to eat. The downside is you are a little farther from the fairgrounds. I think there's another thread on where everyone is staying. We'll be in Mechanicsburg at the Marriott. I think we are a half hour (maybe less) from the fairgrounds via the "back way".

Once we get you there, you'll be hooked.

Makes me wish I had cruise.

Too much heat, and I'd be making my own Hershey treats.
Decent bathrooms, you'll survive.

I find it a little amazing some folks are so good at talking themselves out of this, but then I did the same thing for years. I suppose if you go outdoors and it rains, or you sweat too much, no fun can be had... I like to keep a t shirt or 2 on stand by, along with fresh shoes and socks... good for hot or wet conditions. I impose on the C Body crowd for shade and anyone will give you a water. BTW, the showers aren't too bad either, and fix you up just right at the end of the day.

I love walking the swap, and never get to the entire show field to track the daily changes (lots of folks do a single day if they don't have too much of a drive). I try to visit with everyone, but never seem to get as much time as I would like. I usually fall asleep too early to get into any real trouble with Dave @70bigblockdodge , which is good, I'm a light duty party animal these days.

Last note on the weather, growing up in PGH, with 60 clear, sunny days a year... half of which come during the sub-freezing weather... to me, Carlisle has been right at some of the best weather I remember PA having to offer. I follow it up with the return to FL for August, when you can literally melt into the asphalt. I'd need to bring warmer clothes if it was in June, or a Kilt if it was in August (air cooling and sweat dispersal).

Tell you what those showers are a absolute refresher!

I'll be in row P, 134-136, With Connie. She's air conditioned so no sweat. Jeff is at 137-138 so lots of space to hang for awhile. Always cold drinks.
I'll have lots of literature this year. Factory bulletins, old magazine ad's, some cool stuff. Not so many parts, but a few select items. If I can figure out a way to do it, I will bring the 67 Polara 500 convertible.
Anyone who has been putting this off...... Stop it! Don't listen to the whiner's

This is by far the best Mopar event you will ever attend. Just prepare for it.
Large brim hat, several changes of T-shirts, extra shoes. Everything else can be found in the fairgrounds. Lots of good advise in this thread.

It waz either '86 or '87 when I made my first Fall Carlisle with the 300 Hurst. From travelin' back and forth across I-80 year round for many yearz I knew what Spring Carlisle waz gonna be like. By the early '90s the ownerz had bought the Fair Groundz 'cuz they knew they had a tiger by the tail, and 11 individual shows plus Spring and Fall were born, and I waz hooked. It took almost 10 yearz to completely load the show field, But the swap field waz loaded from the 1st Chrysler's at Carlisle thru' 2018 and I see no reason to think it'll slow down this year and the show field caught up and iz az jammed az the swap field now. Wife and I missed Carlisle between '94 and '98 because we tried Austin, Tx. for those yearz. We did journey to Denver, and Portland and Huston for National 300 and WPC showz in those late '90s yearz plus all the local showz within 250 milez from Austin in the Lone Star, but after retiring in '94 we both went back to work in Austin. ln '99 we were back in Michigan and doin' Chrysler's at Carlisle , and I think I've missed 3 yearz 'tween then and now, AND LAST YEARE WAZ #3 AND I'M JONESIN' FOR AH MOPAR FIX AND SOME WAY OVER DUE BENCH RACIN' WITH ALL MY CAR-BUDZ. I'll be crusin' up in the '00 Gold Minivan this year from Wilmington, N.C. and I'll be flyin' solo, but I'm registered az ah '72 Monico so I'll be parked with Dave and hiz crew, lol. Jer

There is a member that sleeps under his car... on the show field no less.
Even at factory ride height, I couldn't fit under my car.

So, if I find a hotel and book it, then it's just a matter of coping with no AC or wipers for a day's drive there, sweating through my clothes until I smell so bad, nobody even wants to come near my car, then a day's drive back with no AC or wipers.

So far, sounding delightful.

Going to Carlisle is terrific. I've been going for at least ten years now. As regards things I like about it: First, its the drive up there and back home in a C-Body; you just can't beat that, can you? Then there is time spent meeting and greeting old and new C-Body friends, which is always a high point. Since schmoozing is one of my favorite pass-times, I always bring the libations needed to lubricate the conversations. When trolling the best MOPAR swap meet there ever was, I find something every year. Sometimes, the deals are unbeatable. Finally, I get to drool on a lotta C-Bodies and other MOPARS too - and I don't hafta stumble over a bunch of chebbys to see them.

As to dislikes, there really aren't any, unless its the traffic getting in the gate, if you arrive late. I don't mind the heat, because I wear a hat and a I bring a tent / canopy and extra chairs for me and the other slackers.

If yer on the fence about coming to Carlisle, come anyway. If you don't like it, go home. Of course - if you do - we'll talk about you.

So, I just got word on my salary change, and it's MUCH better than I could have imagined, I'm just waiting to hear about the PTO situation, and how that works... so I'm not ruling Carlisle out completely yet...

...it just might be in my Mustang.
