Thinking about selling. 50,000 Miles. Smokes a little. New, timing chain, new water pump, new oil pump, new fuel pump, rebuilt original carburetor, rebuilt alternator, new freeze plugs. Runs good, never completely rebuilt. Ran last 2 years. Always Brad penn zinc oil. Before this it sat for 20 years dry storage. 99% original parts. Complete. Air cleaner to pan.

Well. . . If everything the seller sez is true, you could probably get away with a quality valve job and seals, and go with the engine as is. I would still try to chisel down the price to $4K or less though.

At $4K, it seems like a good deal for a complete RB.
Any HP440 would be nice replant in somebody's roller thats been sitting in the corner waiting to live again.

However. . . If this engine is NOT what the seller believes it is, and it needs a rebuild, then it is a $750 dollar engine that is gonna need at least another $4k spent on it for a quality rebuild.

Let’s not forget the air cleaner is worth 250.

Entering a message on a phone, while sitting in traffic this morning, I missed 1 key word.....

"At $4K, it WOULD seems like a good deal for a complete RB.

Having had a few 440's machined, and buying parts alone would cost somewhere in neighborhood of the sellers asking price.
More info would be needed on this one, and $5500, even $4K for what it is by seeing the pic, I agree it's priced wrong.

The red X was deserved.

There is something a little odd about a 50k engine that smokes and has had a recent oil pump replacement. As a complete engine that is probably a core, about $1500 should buy it. That is assuming it has no coolant in the oil and compression on all 8 cylinders and no obvious freeze cracks. Would also be nice to know if this was a c-body engine or what else it might have come out of. TNT air cleaner suggests a Chrysler but things get moved about. Also note that oil pump does not appear to be "new" given the accumulated grease. Has either the wrong lower pulley or the wrong alternator, not that it really matters.

there is a whole bunch more photos on the FB post if anyone is intersested

For further clarification. Most of the time if somebody puts a new oil pump on RB series engine it means that the pickup screen was plugged with debris from a failing timing chain and the oil pressure had dropped. Note engine has new timing chain. Even in police severe service timing chains did not fail at 50k. I think this is likely a much higher mileage engine, probably 150k if it was a highway driver which would explain why it started to smoke. In that case it would be a core engine.

A decent core, standard 350 hp, easily sells for $1250 if you can find them. As said, the air cleaner alone would go for $250. However, $5K is way out of line, but the seller even says he is thinking of selling, maybe just testing the waters.

There is another $250 in the exhaust manifolds, another $250 intake, carb and pan. As a core that might get you to $1750 if someone really wants it. A long way from $5.5k.

Right, and he does say they are C body exhaust manifolds, another tough item to find.
