Trying to figure out if a 66 imperial I am selling has reverb option. Was this available on convertibles? Please send me a picture of what it looks like 919-630-0158. Is there a dash switch? Car I have has am/fm search floor switch option but do not see any other switches. Thanks----Arthur

Reverberation was usually a free-standing option, with a prominent instrument panel switch. Totally not a part of any search-tuner radio apparatus.

The labelled instrument panel knob was turned to increase the amount of delay time between the front speaker and the rear speaker. Correctly adjusted (which is critical!!), it would give the impression of "concert hall realism", from a huge auditorium rather than a smaller space. Not enough delay? Not too much addition to the sound delay. Too much delay? The sound became garbled as the front and rear sounds were totally out of sync.

It was a try for better sound, but was still dependent upon the speaker quality AND the type of music/speech being listened to. After I was in a car that had one, investigating the adjustments, I was not that impressed by it, personally. It was certainly not one of those "set and forget" items. Having the quality sound (by comparison to what Ford and GM had back then) of a fadeable rear speaker made for a better situation, to me.

You might find a sales brochure at www.hamtramck-historical.com or similar.

IF you've got that option, it should be marked by a knob and related mounting with "REVERB" cast into it.

Enjoy!

Assuming the setup is the same as my '64 convertible, the reverb control switch is located under the dash between the steering wheel and ashtray. The reverb unit is activated by pulling the switch down. The actual unit is a metal box about 12x4x4 located under the rearmost cardboard trunk panel, right above the rear bumper.

Same on 66 C bodies. Fader switch pulls down as well as turns.

And here’s what the unit that lives in the trunk looks like.
