1964 Imperial engine having problems running at low RPM

Safe to assume you just hadn’t installed the vac hose to the distributor yet in the top pic?

Well you need to do as I suggested. Get a can of carb out or carb cleaner and spray it into the throat of the carb while it is running. The try different locations around the carb and intake etc. You need to start with a basic diagnostics and then go from there.

Carb cleaner will not be good for painted parts!

Ok if I put my hands over the carb it died. If I spray carb cleaner it died. I sprayed the carb cleaner around the manifold and heads and on all the vacuum lines I could fine and nothing. No sudden surge nothing. I'll see if I can upload some videos i took while i did what you suggested. I also did some while driving so you can see what it does.

Need to see video but it doesn’t seem like it’s a vacuum leak. It’s likely flooding.
If you have a vacuum gauge put it in while at idle.

If this has been going on for even a little while, you better pull the dipstick and check for gas in the oil. You could do some real damage if the oil is being diluted with gas.

My '67 had an issue similar until I **** canned the carb and bought an Eddy 1406.

When this started that was one of the first things I did cause I know the rear main leaks a little and I didn't want to drop the transmission at the time I did the gaskets.

So I found the problem. I was getting week spark. I switch up to an electronic distributor and it solved my problem. It sucks that it's not all original with it. But she has never run so good. But at least it's a licensed distributor.

Sounds like the distributor bushings are worn, or a bent upper shaft. I don't have to much faith in the new condensers or points at all.

New stuff absolutely sucks. Guy at Carlisle that also does distribs actually had a sign up saying he only used new points/condensers not like that other guy. OK good luck with that.

So she is back on the road. It turned out that I wired the distributor wrong. I know the big blocks go counter counterclockwise. I just wired it in reverse order. She runs like a new car now
