Anyone know how to get a trunk open on a 64 Newport or similar? My trunk is stuck shut due to the key lock actuator arm falling off the lock cylinder. Does the rear seat come out from the front? Can you Jimmy the trunk open from the outside?

The rear seat comes out from inside the car. Lower section needs to come out first. Push it back as far as you can and then lift up and pull forward, that should disengage the catch on each corner. The upper seat section is held in place by a bolt on bottom corner on each side. With bolts removed, the seat will lift out. With the seat out take a flash light and locate the trunk latch. It is held in place by two 1/2" bolts. You will need a couple of 24" extensions to reach the bolts.

When you push the seat bottom back, there will be tension pushing the seat forward. You'll need to hold the seat back as you lift up on the front of the seat cushion, similar to this.

If the problem is that this bar has come out of the lock set that slides through the latch.

You won't need to remove the latch, you only need a flat blade screw driver and you can simply stick it in the latch and turn it counter clockwise when you're looking at it from the back seat.

Thanks guys, appreciate the detailed responses! I'll give this a go today.

How do you turn the latch when the lock cylinder is connected and it does not turn?

Pull/slide the lock retainer out and pull the lock assembly out. Then you can use a screwdriver to turn the latch.
